Romein-Klein combination (Rotterdam, NL) becomes a national top level player in just a few years' time

Cor Romein and Frank Klein joined forces in 2014 and they booked their first successes fairly early on. Meanwhile they have won over 30 victories in major competitions, and have become a household name in pigeon racing in The Netherlands.

Frank Klein (l) and Cor Romein (r)

The Romein-Klein combination was founded in 2014, and consists of the 64 year old Cor Romein and the 43 year old Frank Klein. The fanciers have 50 pairs of racing birds that are raced in total widowhood. They also have 24 breeding pairs, and about 150 to 160 youngsters are raised every season. The pigeons originate mainly from the bloodlines of Danny van den Vrede (Bergschenhoek). The team is also based on bloodlines of Gaby Vandenabeele (Dentergem, BE), Gerard Koopman (Ermerveen, NL) and Leo Heremans (Vosselaar, BE) through Anton Ruitenberg (Zwolle, BE). Frank explains: "We are always looking for better pigeons, preferrable pigeons that have given multiple generations of talented youngsters." We will briefly discuss some of the racing and breeding birds that have played an important role in this success story.

NL06-1031455 Quicksilver x NL09-1128908 Super 08

One of the most fundamental bloodlines for Cor and Frank is breeding pair Quicksilver x Super 08. Quicksilver was purchased from A. M. Van Gameren in 2013. Click here for Quicksilver's pedigree. This racing cock won a 1st Strombeek (5,614 p.) and 1st Duffel (5,367 p.). He proved an instant success in the breeding loft: he became the sire and grandfather of some very talented youngsters in just a few years' time. Super 08 is the hen in this breeding pair. She is a 100% Danny van de Vrede (Bergschenhoek, NL), and inbred to super class breeer Zeus. The pedigree of Super 08 can be seen here. Quicksilver and Super 08 are now the parents of Starlet (12 prizes 1 / 100) and White Lightning (11 prizes 1 / 100). Grandchildren of this pair have shown to have a lot of potential as well: the NL15-1655859 for instance wins a 1st Morlincourt against 5,298 pigeons (and 2nd fastest of 14,036 pigeons), besides several other top prizes.

NL15-1655831 Starlet

Starlet is without doubt a phenomenal pigeon. She became 3rd Best Sprint Pigeon WHZB/TBOTB last year, and she finished in 2nd place in the PIPA ranking for best sprint/middle distance pigeon in The Netherlands (10 prizes). She did as follows in 2017:

 1st Roye 6,051 p.
 1st Arras 827 p.

 8th Peronne 5,056 p.

After her excellent results in 2017 Cor and Frank understandably agreed to longer race her, and to give her a chance as a breeder. Click here for Starlet's pedigree.

NL15-1655771 White Lightning

As we said, White Lightning is a full sister of the aforementioned Starlet. Her pedigree can be found here. She has won some impressive results as well, including no less than 11 prizes 1 per 100:

His sire is a son of Quicksilver x Super 08 and winner of a 1st Peronne of 2,921 pigeons (plus teletext). A successful combination

Cor was forced to slow things down due to health issues, and Frank felt that he could not race pigeons the way he wanted due to circumstances. As a result, the two fanciers merged into a combination in 2014. We are now three years later and we can already say that this was a perfect solution for both of them. Frank now takes care of the day to day running of this loft, with Cor jumpin in whenever he can. Cor and Frank are two dedicated and motivated fanciers who are willing to sacrifice a lot for their pigeons. This combination of good quality pigeons and motivated fanciers has made them one of the top level players in The Netherlands within just a few seasons.
