A report on the Central Southern Classic Flying Club race from Worksop on 17th June 2023

95 member sent 1,064 pigeons to Worksop with the Central Southern Classic Flying Club. They were liberated at 08.00CEST. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members’ verifications.

F Hambidge of Chipping Norton timed two yearlings to take first and second open, first and second NE section. First on the clock was doing a velocity of 1429ypm over a distance of 94 miles and was a Herman Ceuster x Daniel Aarens hen. Second to time was on 1427ypm and this was bred from stock obtained from Rob Rome of Fleet. 

First SE section

Mr and Mrs May and Son of West Ashling had six yearlings drop together and took third to eighth open, first to sixth SE section. Flying a distance of 171 miles, all six were clocked on a velocity of 1424ypm. The section winner is a grandchild of Supersire Spiderman, this pigeon was eighth federation the previous week. Next on the clock was another grandchild of Spiderman, bred from Spider Boy x Emerald, sire and dam to many winners. Third to time was bred from Last Pitbull x Lady Tornado. Fourth section contains Yves de Wit bloodlines direct from their partnership loft in Belgium, whilst fifth section is a direct daughter of Supersire Spiderman. Finally, sixth section is the partners most consistent north road racing hen this season, 507. 

Ken Francis

K and S Francis of Southampton were ninth open and seventh SE section with a two year old on 1416ypm over 169 miles. Ken timed a hen containing Billy Lynch Casaert bloodlines and raced on the roundabout system. 

Graham Matthews

Completing the top ten and in eighth SE section was Graham Matthews of Fareham with a yearling on 1407ypm over a distance of 171 miles. Graham's blue chequer cock was bred from an egg given to him by Ivan Lowden of Portsmouth and containing Donkere Leo bloodlines. The dam came from Ian Brown of Cleveland. The nestmate to the dam has bred many winners. 

Nigel Easton

Nigel Easton of Havant timed five pigeons to take eleventh, twelfth, sixteenth, nineteenth and twentieth open. First to time was a Yves de Wit x Hurricane x dirst Aerts Bros hen on 1405.9ypm over 171 miles. Second was a grand-daughter of Donkere Leo x 84, a good race cock, now at stock and timed on 1405.5ypm. 

Wearn Brothers and Neilsen of Ramsdean timed two pigeons to take thirteenth and fourteenth open on 1405.3 and 1403ypm over a distance of 161 miles. 

Around the sections

Lee Hopkins

L Hopkins of Blandford timed a three year old on 1365.8ypm over 176 miles to take first SW section. The section winner is a Frans Zwols cock bred in the stock loft. Last season it was Lee's first bird home from Wakefield. Usually a slow trapper, this time it was straight in the loft on arrival. Lee had 100% returns from Worksop. 

Robbie Hooper

R Hooper of Poole was second SW section with a yearling on 1365.1ypm over 184 miles. Robbie timed a son of his second section, sixth open winner from a previous Wakefield race. Earlier this season it has scored from Wakefield with the federation and the classic. 

Brimble & Caldwell

Brimble and Caldwell of Cam timed a two year old on 1252ypm to take first NW section. The sire of the section winner contains Soontjen x Old Venner bloodlines, whilst the dam is 200 Venner x Ponderosa Van Wanroy. The Venner lines go back to Ash Caldwell's dad's originals and the Soontjen blood comes from Frank Sheader. 

Philip Duckett

P Duckett of Highbridge was the NW section runner-up with a two year old on 1212ypm over a distance of 164 miles. Phil timed a hen that won the section from Wakefield last year and was raced on the roundabout system. 

The Abery hen

The runners-up in the NE second were S and D Abery of Reading with a three year old on 1110ypm over 130 miles. Mick and Di timed a Soontjen x Boshua hen that has flown both north and the south road. It was flown celibate and has never been paired.
