A report on the British Barcelona Club old hen race from Coutances on 31st August 2020

Fifty-four members sent two hundred and eighty-nine old hens to Coutances with the British Barcelona Club. After a two day holdover they were liberated at 09.00CEST. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members' verifications.
Dale, Craig & Bernard Chambers

The Chambers family of Cannock were first open and first section E with a yearling on 1365ypm. Despite being a yearling, the winning hen has already raced over forty inland races and four from across the channel, up to 350 miles. It is bred from their best middle distance breeding hen that contains Lambrecht bloodlines, whilst the sire of the Chambers' winner was purchased from Shaun McDonough, the winner of the young bird national on the same day. 

Leon Hall

Leon Hall of Headington timed a yearling on 1360ypm to take second open and first section D. Leon's winner was a blue bar hen bred from his Premier Stud Leo Heremans' bloodlines, with the sire being a son of Auction House. It is a full sister to Eijerkamp's famous Euro Cock. 

Robbie Hooper, Peter Hollard & Max

R Hooper of Poole was third open and first section B with a yearling on 1354ypm. Robbie timed two further pigeons to also take fifth and sixth open, second and third section B. The section winner was bred by Pete Hollard of Lytchett Matravers and contains Lillivet and Locke bloodlines. It was sent sitting large squeakers. 

Scot Hay Lizzie

D and P Whitfield of Newcastle were fourth open and second section E with a yearling on 1348ypm. David and Paul timed Scot Hay Lizzie, a pure bred Verheye hen that was sent sitting sixteen days, with the youngsters hatching out on the day of her return. 

Jim Derbyshire's hen

Jim Derbyshire of Whitchurch timed a yearling on 1303ypm to take seventh open and first section A. Jim's section winner was bred by James and Peter Parker of Beenham and contains Lambrecht bloodlines. Jim timed a second pigeon shortly afterwards, another yearling hen of Lambrecht lines crossed with Gaston van de Wouer blood. This was also bred by J and P Parker. 

Eric Davis

E Davis of Marlborough was eighth open and first section C with a two year old on 1300ypm. Eric timed a pigeon bred by Kelly and Hyde of Colchester and containing Soontjen bloodlines. It came in to Eric as a stray and was then transferred to him. 

Pete Barlow

Pete Barlow of Coombe Hill clocked a yearling on 1285ypm to take ninth open and second section C. Pete timed the same pigeon that won the section for him from Coutances with the CSCFC the previous week. 

Martin & Kenny Attrill

J Attrill and Sons of Southampton were tenth open and second section A with a two year old on 1282ypm. The Attrill's winner contains Red Barcelona bloodlines on the sire's side with black Verotte lines from Robbie Jones on the dam's.

Steve Travers

Steve Travers of Poole was the section B runner up with a yearling on 1274ypm. Steve's hen was sent sitting fifteen days and he had nine out of nine entries home within three hours. 

Chitty Bros' hen

The Chitty Brothers of Kings Langley were second section D with a four year old on 1168ypm. Brian and Dick timed a hen gifted to them by A S Hughes of Rochdale and containing Kruger bloodlines. 

Mick & Lyn Chaplin

Mr and Mrs Chaplin of Woking timed a two year old on 1181ypm to take first section G. Mick and Lyn's chequer pied hen was bred from their number one stock pair of Burgher Wildermeersch pigeons. 

John, Darren & Josh May

Mr and Mrs May and Son of West Ashling timed two pigeons to take second and third section G. Both were yearlings on 1142ypm and 1141ypm. Second section was a latebred roundabout x widowhood hen bred from a Heremans Ceusters' Spiderman cock when paired to a Pitbull hen. Third section was bred from direct Verweij-De Haan stock. 

Paul Davies

P Davies of Jersey was first section H with a two year old on 801ypm. Paul clocked Lynne Mark 2, a hen sent sitting a nine day old squeaker. 

Willie Healy

Willie Healy of Jersey was second section H with a five year old on 591ypm. Willie's hen was sent sitting eight day eggs and contains Van Wanroy x Scottish bloodlines. 

John Brady

J and J Brady of Benfleet timed a four year old on 978ypm to take first section J. The sire of the section winner is a Frank Tasker cock with M and G Casaert on the one side and Pokke on the other. The dam came from their 2008 national winner paired to a daughter of Jos Thone's National 2. 

Martin Jones

McDermott and Jones of Stanford Le Hope were second section J with a yearling on 818ypm. The partners timed a hen bred from an Andy Parsons' cock when paired to a hen containing Mark Bulled's Old 60 bloodlines.
