GB09J31666 “EADHUN” is raced on widowhood. In preparation he went to 4 races from France completing 1,393 miles (2,241km) with velocities of 787, 442, 863 and 1044 ypm reflecting the hard conditions faced this year. His performances were steady without being exciting. There was a little concern this might be too tough but he, like his loft mates, really bounced around prior to going to Barcelona. He is fed a home mix of farm grains, wheat, beans and barley plus some maize. As Barcelona approaches more maize is added together with sunflower seed.  Otherwise they are flown out twice a day and the routine kept as simple as possible.

He is bred from a cock from Jac Steketee of Bruinesse mated to a hen from Jelle Outhuijse of Harlingen, both very nice men and very good fanciers who have excellent pigeons.  With this race the lofts 2012 racing finishes and now “EADHUN” can rear some young and have a relaxing winter before preparation for Barcelona 2013 begins.

Barcelona (int.) 2012 | 2 national winners in the UK

In order to avoid confusion we wish to explain why there are two UK national winners.

In the UK, the international race from Barcelona was organised by two national clubs this year, viz. the BICC (British International Championship Club) and the BBC (British Barcelona Club). Since the results of both organisers are put on two separate results, there are two UK national results and therefore two UK Barcelona winners. Both UK national results are however included in the international result. You can have a find both UK national results nationale uitslagen on the results page of Barcelona 2012.

The UK Barcelona winners are:

  • BICC: Mark Gilbert from Winkfield, Windsor
  • BBC: Team RML from Romford

The other international races in the UK are organised by only one national club, viz. the BICC.

The father is directly from "Het Super Koppel". "Het Super Koppel" are the parents of many ace pigeons and toppigeons. The father is also a full brother of the cock NL-96-9647683, which is the grandfather of "Liza-Denise", which won the 1st National 2004 from Marseille at Wijnans/De Jong. The lofts of Antony Schults contain primarily the bloodlines of Jac. Steketee (Bruinisse, NL). In the pedigree of the father of the national winner we find a sister of "Stayer" as well as "Marseille", which won the 4th National Marseille. Stayer was 1st International Ace Pigeon Long Distance for Jac. Steketee.

A close inbred family of pure quality is that of Jac Steketee. He was one of the best fanciers playing overnight races in Europe. The creator of a unique long distance loft based on Aarden x van Wanroy. The "Stamdoffer NL77-2083788" was one of the best breeders ever in the history of pigeon racing.

Barcelona (int.) 2012 | First pigeon has arrived home

The first arrival of the prestigious international race from Barcelona has just been added on PIPA: Georges Bauchard from Sillery (France) clocked his pigeon this morning at 5:47 CEST.

You can view all early arrivals on this list. If you would like to see where the first arrivals took place, take a look on our radar.

Barcelona (int.) 2012 | Current weather and forecast for the rest of the day

The weather was good this noon in Barcelona and along the Spanish coast. There were moderate to strong southwest winds along the coastal areas. Temperatures reached 25° C, the same as in southern France.

In the Languedoc (the region from Perpignan to Narbonne) there is a slight to moderate northwest wind. There are some high cirrus clouds with cloudier skies in the inland regions.

To the west of the Central Massif (Carcassonne – Aurillac) we expect variable or heavy clouds and a slight southwest wind.

Along the western line of Montauban, Cahors, Montluçon and Bourges it will be partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers. This line will have a slight to moderate south southwest wind. Further to the west there is an increased chance of rain.

The eastern line along the Rhône River: in the Rhône valley there is a slight northwest wind which changes to a slight southwest wind in the afternoon. Expect temperatures to be around 28° C with partly cloudy skies.

Lyon and further north (Dijon, Nancy Reims): we expect a slight south southwest wind this afternoon and into the evening. We have partly cloudy skies and temperatures of about 20° C.

Overall clear visibility (more than 10km), except when there is rain.

Released at 16:00 CEST

Weather conditions during liberation: strong wind, very nice, south-southeast wind, very good visibility

If you wish to follow the race live, you can go to the tab "Live Results" where you will see a list of all early arrivals added on PIPA. Under "Live Results", you can click on "Radar" if you wish to see the location of the arrivals..

Barcelona (int.) 2012 | Announcement Cureghem Centre: Barcelona liberation

Taking into account the weather forecast for today and coming days we've decided to release the birds today, Friday, however at a later time. This decision was made together with the (inter)national sports committee chairmen and those in charge of the liberation. The exact hour of liberation will be announced later today on Cureghem Centre's website.

Weather expectations: showers, variable wind

Barcelona (int.) 2012 | Announcement Cureghem Centre: liberation time

The liberation time of the Barcelona race will be determined by the weather conditions. First and foremost, it is our goal to keep Barcelona an overnight race. So the liberation will be done as was the case in recent years.

In case the weather conditions are extremely favourable and it is expected that the pigeons will reach high speeds, meaning when there’s west and southwest winds, then all pigeons will be released as early as possible to avoid flying at night. By doing so, we hope to make the contest as fair as possible for each and everyone of the contenders. We wish you all good luck.

Barcelona (int.) 2012 | Inspection of the stamps at Wolvertem on Monday 2 July

Every year the transport company Lathouwers from Wolvertem allows Cureghem Centre to use its accommodation for the marking of the Barcelona pigeons. About fifteen teams from different basketing clubs were there to do this job.

New: Verification of wing stamp - Why?

Regulations are clear: the C-C may carry out additional inspections.

Art. 21: The organisers will do all things necessary to avoid any fraud and to assure a perfect implementation of the rules described in the program.

To avoid any confusion we would like to have this clarified. Some believe that the electronic timing system was to blame, but the organisation says it has nothing to do with that.
First of all this system had been used before in the Netherlands for all the pigeons, on the condition that they are stamped, because this does not happen for every international race. For Barcelona and Belgium this additional procedure is only necessary for the first pigeon.
It has always been the aim of Cureghem-Centre to make any fraud IMPOSSIBLE as much as possible. This concerns the time after the pigeons have arrived home.
As we all know every pigeon has to be verified by telephone within ten minutes, with the time of arrival, ring number and the wing stamp.
This wing stamp causes a lot of trouble for the organisers, as fanciers used to be rather careless with this number. Once in a while, Cureghem received CORRECTED lists after a few moments, leading to the suspicion that there were loopholes. In order to avoid this everybody has to verify the wing stamp (the number printed on the wing of the pigeon) with a card; this also had to be done within 10 minutes after its arrival.
We know that cheaters are always inventive, so this measure could be very useful.
In the Netherlands the pigeons are stamped at the basketing venue, NOT in the clubs, as many fanciers mistakenly believe.
This year there was an additional check of the electronic timing system; for instance it was found out that sometimes the masters were not updated.

Barcelona (int.) 2012 | Compulsory clocking of the wingstamp

Curegem Centre has introduced a new control for the pigeons destined for Barcelona.

To all marking stations,

The maximum number of pigeons per basket is 16.

You must inform fanciers that they have to clock the wingstamp of their first clocked pigeon.

After clocking the rubber they need to write the wingstamp on a small piece of paper and clock it into the next chamber in a thimble.

At clock checking the piece of paper with the wingstamp on must be produced with the rubber.
