Rudi De Saer (Ruiselede, BE), breeder of top talents for the long distance

Besides his renowned Antonio bloodline, Rudi De Saer relies on two other world class lines: New Tours and Black Lola. And they too have bred many race winners and talented racing birds. These top quality bloodlines have paved the way towards new successes.

Soon after winning the title of 1st Nat. Champion long distance KBDB in 2010, Antonio and his son Rudi De Saer sold their entire racing team online. They auctioned some of their biggest stars at the time; think of such iconic De Saer pigeons as Tours, Bleken, Jens, Zwarten As, and many more. Some assumed that the team from Ruiselede would be a shadow of its former self, but that was not quite the case. In fact, they were able to raise the bar even further. The result was an incredible series of championship and ace pigeon titles, as well as prominent victories in provincial and national races.

Stock pair Perigueux x Corry, together with golden stock dam 't Goedje, proved a solid foundation, providing the loft from Ruiselede with excellent new racing birds. The pigeon family welcomed several high quality birds that most of you will already be familiar with: national winners Antonio (1st Nat. Souillac), New Tours (1st Nat. Cahors), New Jens (1st Nat. Limoges) and Favoriet (1st and 2nd Nat. Limoges, 2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon long distance KBDB), as well as long distance stars like NeymarAce, Falco, and many others. Each of these pigeons has been very successful in team De Saer, and they were eventually transferred to the breeding loft. After all, basketing your national winners for other future races is not a viable option.

Still, transferring your best birds to the breeding loft every season does have an impact on the development of your racing team. It means you need other talented newcomers to fill the gaps every time, and these can be hard to find. And Rudi De Saer knows full well that you have to breed from champions in order to be successful in the long run - that's what it takes to breed new potential race winners. As you know, the ability to win races is a hereditary trait; you either have it or you don't.

New Tours and Black Lola bloodlines excel

Rudi De Saer is is now building a new team of stars, based on these two bloodlines. He is ready to add another chapter to an already incredible success story that has been going since their total sale in 2010, ten seasons ago. New talents have been discovered, new long distance champions were born. That's why it is particularly unfortunate that Rudi De Saer has repeatedly struggled with birds of prey. These have appeared around his lofts in Ruiselede season after season. Another eight talented racing birds fell victim to these birds of prey right before 2019, including two five year old long distance stars. Rudi has noticed that these attacks have an impact on the peace of mind and the confidence of the other teammates as well. You can tell that the other birds get more nervous, and it does take time for them to regain their confidence. And that is time that could be better spent on gaining fitness, especially because a pigeon racing season does not last very long.

All you can do as a fancier is continue the hard work. And that is what many champions have in common: they never back down. Rudi De Saer can rely on a group of talented breeding birds  that are able to breed new stars on a regular basis. Think for instance of Black Tours and Ghost, the two leading names in his 2019 yearlings' team. We take a closer look:

Top class bloodlines produce new talents

The many great results at home and in pigeon lofts across the globe illustrate the enormous potential of the modern-day De Saer pigeon. And it also illustrates that breeding new pigeons from proven racing birds and race winners is still key in modern day pigeon racing. It is in fact the only road to success; the loft of Rudi De Saer is a telling example.

Dark Rudi: 1st Best long distance pigeon in Belgium over 6 and 7 national races in 2016 for DVV-pigeons (Black Lola bloodline)
