Jeroen and Stijn Rans (Wijgmaal, BE) win both Barcelona, Pau and Perpignan national in just three years' time!

In the last several years, the Rans Brothers from Wijgmaal have been impossible to ignore in the national and international extreme long distance competition. Their national victories from Pau and Perpignan (2017), as well as their marvelous international first prize from Barcelona (2019) have turned them into true marathon specialists.

The entire Rans family was very proud of their international victory in Barcelona last summer

Three national wins in three seasons

If you manage to win the national races from Pau and Perpignan (with Zwarte Weduwe & Frans respectively), as well as Barcelona (national & international, with Jef / Ace 63) over the course of just three seasons, you deserve to be considered an extreme long distance specialist. And let's not forget the many other top results (2nd Nat. Valence with Chanti, 3rd Nat. Aurillac with Stef and 8th Nat. Barcelona with Lolo). The four pigeons that excelled in the aforementioned races are also the leading names of this successful pigeon loft, which the Rans family managed to develop through years of hard work, patience and careful selection. Their pigeon family has developed into a breed that thrives in demanding marathon races.

Jef - BE16-2051063 - 1st Int. Barcelona - 15,891 pigeons

Racing bird Jef claimed a well deserved international first prize in a demanding 2019 Barcelona classic. He finished ahead of the second pigeon with more than 70 m/min or a lead of just under two hours, reaching a velocity of 943 m/min. He does have an impressive palmares:

1st National Barcelona - 7,301 pigeons / 1st Int. - 15,981 pigeons (2019)
35th National Perpignan - 3,966 pigeons / 109th Int. - 12,349 pigeons (2018)
81st Nationaal Sint-Vincent - 2.758 pigeons / 432nd Int. - 9,544 pigeons (2018)
287th Nationaal Jarnac - 5,117 pigeons (2017)
214th Interprov. Aurillac - 1,797 pigeons (2017)391st Nationaal Cahors - 6,356 pigeons (2018)

And he was also 3rd Provincial Ace Pigeon KBDB extreme long distance in 2018.

The sire of Jef is Eddy (BE14-2324365), a direct Eddy Fabre that went straight to the breeding loft, because of his origins. The sire of Eddy won a 57th National Barcelona (12,612 pigeons) in 2007, and he is a son of Apollo, a super class racing bird of Gaston Devooght and winner of a 41st National Castres, a 96th National Marseille and a 140th National Marseille.

The dam is a granddaughter of Montauban x Barcelonaduivin (Jos Vanderstappen). The Barcelonaduivin was 1st International Ace Pigeon Barcelona between 2007 and 2012, as well as 2nd and 7th Primus Interpares. She is the dam of Frans, 1st Nat. Perpignan. That explains why De Jef is such a strong performer in Barcelona.

The full pedigree of Jef, who was transferred to the Batenburg / VD Merwe / PEC breeding lofts after his victory, can be seen here.

Frans - BE13-2185289 - 1st Nat. Perpignan - 4,620 pigeons / 10th Int. - 14,930 pigeons

The second star of the team is Frans; he claimed a national first prize in Perpignan at the end of the 2017 season, which was the 2nd national victory that year.

And in 2016, Frans won a 65th Nat. Zone Limoges of 6,279 p. / 135th Nat. of 13,493 pigeons. The sire and dam are the two top breeders of this loft: Ed (grandson Joost of Desmeyter-Restiaen) and Barcelonaduivin, which is, as you know, also the grandmother of Jef, 1st Int. Barcelona 2019.

Barcelonaduivin has played an important role in the many successes of Jeroen and Stijn

Zwarte Weduwe - BE14-2173219 - 1st Nat. Pau - 2,135 pigeons / 3rd Int. - 11,164 pigeons

The third pigeon in this row is Zwarte Weduwe. She took a convincing 1st National Pau of 2,135 pigeons, claiming a 3rd prize at international level of 11,164 pigeons. She also claimed a 30th semi-national of 1,678 pigeons from Bergerac in 2016.

The sire of Zwarte Weduwe is 505/05 of Jacques Versonnen, and he has also bred the winner of an 8th Interprov. Bergerac. The dam 664/10 was bred by Declercq-Vervaeren, and obtained from R. Bruyninck. She is a pure De Smeyter-Restiaen and a half sister of Annelies, the best one year old hen in the international races of 2011 in the PIPA Rankings. They come from the same sire, which is himself a son of Joost (1st Internat. Perpignan Yearlings 2003). Click here for the full pedigree of Zwarte Weduwe.

The numbers don't lie. Jeroen and Stijn Rans have become true extreme long distance specialists. Jef, Frans and zwarte Weduwe claimed three national victories and one international victory in recent years. We are all looking forward to the descendants of these three top quality birds, and to the youngsters of Chanti, Aagje, Lady Barca, etc. Would they be able to add a fourth national win to their palmares in 2020?
