We travelled to the town of Urk to sit down with Pieter Woord (58) and Louw van den Berg (38). Peter works for the Dutch Aerospace Center in Marknesse, and Louw van den Berg runs a fish wholesaler. Together they laid the basis for a successful long distance team that demonstrated their strength again this season.

(19/09/2018) Luc De Laere (Anzegem, BE) wins a 1-2-3 Provincial from Tours, and a 1-2-4 Provincial from Chateauroux in a single week!

After being sidelined for four weeks due to an outbreak of the Newcastle Disease, the pigeons of Luc De Laere picked up where they had left off, achieving great results like they used to. They claimed the first three prizes in the provincial race from Tours on 8th of September, and they almost did the same in the national race from Chateauroux, winning a 1-2-4th provincial. Impressive!

It was the icing on the cake after a remarkably strong 2018 racing season of Dirk Speybroeck (a member of Team BDS), in which he won several first prizes and other top results, including several provincial and national top 100 prizes. His interprovincial victory from Poitiers young birds is a new highlight in his career.

(07/09/2018) Vermeerbergen - Wilms (Mol, BE) dominate a demanding Argenton III winning a 1st and 2nd National Zone B2 and a 3rd and 4th National

The Vermeerbergen-Wilms combination from Mol has done it again: they set their sights on one particular race and they were simply outstanding that day, claiming gold and silver both in the province and the zone. They had 4 pigeons in the national top 60, including a 3rd and 4th national!

The Franco-Belge time trial race was launched a few years back to substitute for the cancelled time trail flight on the Mont Ventoux, in memory of Danny Van Bael and Frans Rans. The Franco Belge time trail is not quite as reputable as the race from Mont Ventoux just yet but that is about to change soon, with an increasing number of renowned players taking part.

We reckon most of you already know Eric Berckmoes, the iconic fancier from Antwerp who won almost every race on the calendar in Brecht. He moved to Lille in late 2014, where pigeon racing is different than before. That does not change anything about the quality of his breed, as you can tell from his zonal first prize in Chateauroux.

Gaston Van de Wouwer is really having a fantastic season; one of many over the course of his impressive career. He has now claimed a national first prize of 2,855 old birds in the third race from Chateauroux this season, adding to a total of 3 national first prizes. It illustrates yet again the breeding value of his Kaasboer bloodline.

Es war für die Jungtauben ein fast normales Flugwochenende. Allerdings fanden nur wenige Flüge am Samstag statt, sodass die Spitzenpreise erst einen Tag später veröffentlicht werden konnten.

(28/08/2018) Maurice Hasendonckx (Bouwel, BE) with a smaller team but with the same level of quality in 2019

Marice Hasendonckx wants to reduce the number of pigeons in his team as of next season due to health issues. Hence he reluctantly decided to sell his entire collection of old birds, keeping only his 2018 generation. Given the many successes of his young birds this season, we reckon there is nothing to worry about for him.

The closing long distance race of the season proved to be yet another highlight for the Rans family this season. Rene not only claimed a first prize interprovincial yearlings in Bergerac, he also had the fastest of all 2,233 pigeons that day.

Maurice Hasendonckx has become a household name in the international pigeon racing scene. He can be considered the main founder of the Heremans-Ceusters breed. Euro, Spinneke, Rossi, Olympic Sperwer, Bolt, etc. are all heavily founded on the Hasendonckx bloodlines. And other fanciers have done really well with his pigeons as well. Here is an anthology.

It has been a marvelous season so far for Stefaan, who is racing from his new loft in Nijlen. He took a crowning achievement in last weekend's race from Bourges, claiming two national first prizes Zone B1, with both the yearlings and the young birds.

It has been a very hard season, and time will tell which racing birds have enough energy left to give their best in the closing races of 2018. The pigeons of Norbert Ally clearly have plenty left in the tank: they had already won a 2nd national from Jarnac, and they have now claimed a first prize in the national race from Angoulême as well.
