Year after year, Jos & Lars Vercammen have managed to achieve noticeable results, both in provincial and in national classics, ranging from 'grand middle distance' to 'light long distance'. It is worth noting that new cracks are bred year after year, cracks that all belong the Vercammen colony. This clearly indicates the excellent breeding qualities of the Vercammen stem, which is able to breed several new cracks every year again. This is of course not self-evident; we all know how difficult it is to breed one real crack, let alone breeding different cracks season after season.
The art of breeding
This colony has excellent breeding capacities, which is nothing more than the capability to transmit the ‘strong genes’ of the pigeons to their descendants. In scientific theories and books on heredity, this is referred to as ‘dominance’: the good features (natural health, orientation, vitality, power and endurance, speed, etc.) that allow the pigeons to win races, are handed over to the next generation ‘dominantly’. This is in fact of fundamental importance to be able to play an important role in pigeon racing in the longer term and to make it to the top. If a fancier is lucky enough to get his hands on an exceptional breeder, or to have an excellent breeding couple in the loft, this might settle him for many years to come. In such a case, it is up to the fancier himself to benefit from the talents of his breeding and racing pigeons, and to get the most out of them. And take it from us, many fanciers know the ‘game’, but few of them really know how to build a descent strain. It is obvious that Jos and Lars know the game really well, given their top results year after year (their results for the 2011 season can be found below), winning several titles, ace pigeons, provincial and even national victories. But Jos and Lars understand the art of breeding as well, and they know how to keep their strain in perfect shape... this is not only their merit, but it is also the key to their success! The structure of their colony and strain has been described in many reports throughout the years, and was also evidenced by the numerous performances by Vercammen pigeons. One of the pigeons that plays a key role is the trusty ‘Panterlijn’ (from the stock bear ‘Panter 506/86’), and today, the quality of the strain can be found in the current team of stock breeders, with such names as ‘Beckham’, ‘Barco’, ‘Porto’… Their origins can now be found in numerous top pigeons in racing and breeding lofts.
The new wonder couple “Elektro”(B08-6174630) x “Gloria”(B06-6270117).
As we mentioned earlier, Jos and Lars understand the art of breeding different top pigeons every year, and that is why the colony of “Jos Vercammen” performs very well at national level. Some of these pigeons are new discoveries bred from newly composed breeding couples that provide a good basis for the future. The excellent couple ‘Elektro’ x ‘Gloria’ is a good example of a new discovery at the breeding lofts of Vercammen. They are in fact a combination of old successful lines.
The ‘Elektro’ is a son of ‘Extreme 483/06’ (himself 1° Prov Blois 586 p., 2° Prov Argenton 2,057 p., 2° Prov Vierzon 1,564 p., 3° Prov Chateauroux 1,401 p., 21° N.Zone Bourges 12,278 p.) x ‘Daughter Leeuw 293/05’ (The ‘Leeuw’ won 8° Nat Ace Pigeon KBDB). The ‘Gloria’ stems from a combination of phenomenal lines, the stock lines ‘Porto’ x ‘Beckham’ from Jos Vercammen. As a daughter of ‘Porto 006/03’ (4° Nat ace pigeon KBDB) x Beauty 009/05’, she won a.o. 2° Nat Argenton 21,299 p. (and daughter of top pigeon ‘Beckham 174/01’ (a.o. 1° Prov Argenton 2,166 p. etc.)). A combination of excellent genes, which led to numerous talented pigeons. The children of this couple have won the following prizes in just two years:

We have to admit: it is exceptional to have a team of such top pigeons at your disposal, even from one and the same breeding couple! And we have not mentioned the other top pigeons in the breeding and racing lofts in Vremde. But this would lead us too far; we would have to write a book, rather than a report.
Year after year, Jos & Lars manage to breed new top pigeons and cracks, which are capable of winning numerous titles and victories. In fact, we could state that this is one of the most valuable breeding lofts of the country for anything between the middle distance and the light long distance. This colony is based on real cracks, with exceptional stock breeders and pigeons with that extra edge. This makes things less complicated of course. Some new promising youngsters have been bred for the 2012 season… The Vercammen team seems ready for the new season for sure!
