The collection of national ace pigeons in Wevelgem is therefore quite impressive, just like the number of winners of a national top-10 place that is also very impressive.
Highlights Gino Clicque last 10 years
Destiny brings the Clicque legend ‘Super Prince’
In 2007 a Chinese connection of Gino Clicque asked him to order 40 youngsters from Reynaert. Because there were problems with the shipment to China, Gino had the opportunity to pick 6 pigeons to breed from, and amongst them were 2 youngsters of ‘Figo’ but also 4 other very pretty pigeons. Pictures were taken in Belgium and photographer Dominique Velghe called Gino to share his enthusiasm about 2 pigeons in particular. “I guess you mean the ‘13’ and ‘16’,” Gino replied and Dominique was astonished. Gino had already paired these pigeons and in 2008 they had bred BE08-3172902 ‘Super Prince’ … In 2010 ‘Super Prince’ won

- 5. Nat. Bourges 22,476 b.
- 6. Nat. Argenton 10,549 b.
- 12. Nat. Bourges 22,499 b.
He was crowned 2nd National acebird great middle distance KBDB 2010 thanks to this palmares, finishing just behind ‘New Freddy’, which grabbed the title after having also completed a number of provincial races. ‘Super Prince’ developed into a magnificent breeder for Gino Clicque; he became grandfather of 3x 1st National winners and of 1st National KBDB aces ‘Golden Prince’ & ‘Golden Princess’.
‘Piraat’ marks Gino Clicque’s debut on the Nat. acebird podium
He was the first in a long line of National KBDB top 3 aces for Gino Clicque … and one of the best stock breeders ever after his fantastic 2008 season. “At the time there were not as many categories as today,” says Gino. “So winning a top three position in a National acebird competition was high up on my bucket list. ‘Piraat’ did extremely well as a 3 years old cock in 2008, winning
- 2. Prov. Poitiers 1,227 b.
- 4. Prov. Tours 3,135 b.
- 5. Nat. Bourges 19,084 b.
These results earned BE05-3188928 ‘Piraat’ a title of 3rd Nat. acebird longer middle dist. KBDB 2008. He is a grandson of base breeder ‘Robert’, aged 12 in 2008. That was the moment for ‘Piraat’ to take over ‘Robert’s role and to become the male base breeder of this decade. The highlight of his breeding career were the gold and silver medal of 1st & 2nd Nat. acebird long distance YL KBDB 2018 ‘Golden King’ and ‘New Piraat’. These are two grandchildren of ‘Piraat’ paired to ‘Nestsister Super Prince’ – that other great breeder of the last decade. Another grandchild is ‘Gabriella’, 1st Nat. Agen 2,932 b. and halfsister of 1st Nat. Acebird allround KBDB 2019 at De Bisschop.
‘Golden King’ and ‘New Piraat’; the battle for KBDB Ace gold
In 2018 the two yearlings BE17-3061598 ‘Golden King’ &BE17-3061793 and ‘New Piraat’ were talk of the town. Gino had planned the same program for both: the national races from Limoges, Jarnac and Tulle. The two talents showed their abilities already in the first two races:
- July 7th Limoges (603 km) 7,236 b.; 5th Nat. (‘Golden King’) and 15th Nat. (‘New Piraat’)
- July 15th Jarnac (616 km) 4,940 b. ; 3rd Nat. (‘New Piraat’) and 27th Nat. (‘Golden King’)
After these races ‘New Piraat’ was 1st and ‘Golden King’ was 2nd in the intermediate ranking for 1st National acebird long distance Yearlings KBDB. Two results are taken into account for this competition and ‘New Piraat’ was on his way to victory. And since every national winner or ace pigeon goes straight to the breeding team, he was soon on his way to the breeding loft as well. ‘golden King’
stayed on board the racing team, was basketed for a fast edition of Tulle (595 km) on August 6th and rushed home to win 4th National against 5,326 birds. His 4th and 5th National were better than the 3rd and 15th National of ‘New Piraat’. Here are the final results:
- 1st National acebird long dist. Yearlings KBDB with ‘Golden King’
- 2nd National acebird long dist. Yearlings KBDB with ‘New Piraat’
Both superstars are grandchildren of the legendary ‘Piraat’, which means they both illustrate the golden Gino Clicque breeding strategy.
