So it was the world famous Kannibaal who left his mark on this outstanding loft that has achieved great results. That is why we take a closer look at Kannibaal. The pigeon with ring number B 95-6246005 was an absolute top pigeon in the loft of Van Dyck. As a yearling he was awarded a First Ace Pigeon Middle Distance Belgium. That was a great feat but the best was yet to come: one year later a youngster of Kannibaal was auctioned at an event of the De Duif magazine. The buyer of this hen (B 96-6286060, later called Golden Lady) was Gerard Koopman. This hen bred Kleine Dirk B 98-5821416 (in a pairing with Gentil NL 92-5310320) and many other excellent pigeons, both racers and breeders. Most of you already know the history behind Kleine Dirk but we will give you a short summary anyway: after he won a first National from Troyes against 17,883 pigeons and a first National from Bourges against 7,165 pigeons he developed into a wonderful breeding cock in Ermerveen. Nowadays you can find his name in pedigrees all over the world.
Who is Kannibaal? He is a pigeon that has bred countless top class birds. He became a champion stock pigeon in the pigeon family of Van Dyck. It should not surprise you that his descendants are in great demand. In the years 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004 Theo & Markus Lecke got their hands on a few descendants of Kannibaal, which performed very well in their loft in Holzhausen.
Theo and his son Markus have had a very successful loft for more than 30 years. This makes them a close knit team. Theo Lecke takes care of the pigeons most of the time and he spends a lot of time in the loft. Markus performs the other tasks that are related to running a successful loft. Their success is based on good accommodation, taking great care of the pigeons and having breeding pigeons of excellent quality. This loft has had great successes for several years in a row. If you want to know more you can re-read our previous reports: Theo & Markus Lecke (DL): Seit Jahrzehnten ein Meisterschlag dank einer herausragenden Kannibaal-Basis (in German) and Theo & Markus Lecke (Holzhausen, DE) at the very top, thanks to their Van Dyck pigeons! You can also find the results of this loft in 2010 and 2011 in these reports.

The Lecke pigeons have achieved great results in the one loft races as well. In the Wutaishan race (430 km) in China, six Lecke pigeons reached the final race against 1,860 pigeons and they took a 35th, an 80th and a 152nd prize. In the Hebei race (500km), which is also in China, only 191 pigeons managed to finish on the same day of the release. The Lecke pigeons were there as well, achieving a 61st, 94th, 112th and 341st prize. At the BJ-HX race (500km) in China, six Lecke pigeons raced the final against 1,943 pigeons. They won a 100th, a 136th and a 211th prize.
The collection of Theo & Markus Lecke is very interesting. It looks as if Dirk Van Dyck himself is offering some of his pigeons. We can only say that all of these pigeons are descendants of Kannibaal. There are not many pigeons in this collection but each one of them is invaluable. These are the very best pigeons of the lines of the outstanding breeder Kannibaal. There are eight lots in this auction.
