It's a well know figure that came under the spotlight during the national race from Argenton. Indeed, the Thibaut-Boons loft won it's first national victory after turning around it for a while.
Jean-Marc Thibaut, proud owner of a national winner.
It was only a matter of time before it would happen: Jean-Marc Thibaut-Boons can finally raise his arms and celebrate the first national victory of his career. He had already won numerous titles in almost all existing championships, including the national championships KBDB, but he was yet to win a national victory; it was the only thing still missing on his palmares. Thanks to his racing bird 246/17 (which is since called Thiam) his palmares is now complete. Needless to say, it was a fantastic day in Sombreffe.
Back to the facts
Jean-Marc Thibaut (47 years) has always been very successful in the national races, especially with the youngsters. This year a group of twenty youngsters had been specially prepared for these races and he had some racing cocks in the team for the first time as well (he used to race with a team of hens only). These youngsters were darkened from the 1st of March until the 25th of June, after which they were lightened. After several sprint races they were separated on the 15th of july. At the time, several pairs were already made but many were still on their own. They were then raced with the system of the sliding door. During the week the hens are housed in a resting loft while the cocks are sitting in widowers box. Each loft has a motivation box on the ground. It can be opened so that the pigeons can expand their territory and they can also sit in dark corners, which they particularly like. After several good races, mostly the two first national races (Bourges & Châteauroux), they were in a good mood. Jean-Marc took the time to pay a visit to the vet for a health check, to make sure his pigeons were still in good shape.
After the race from Châteauroux where the pigeons had spent 4 nights in the basket, the youngsters were basketed for Trélou (170 km). The week before Argenton the pigeons were trained two times: the first time over 40 kilometers, the second time in Macquenoise (60 km) on the day of basketing. They sat together from 11h until 16h before they were separated and fed and sent off to the club. We know rest of the story. Jean-Marc went to his club in Falissolle with a team of 6 olds and 25 youngsters. The pigeons were released at 10h00 on Saturday 26th of August.
It was shortly after 4pm when Jean-Marc saw his 5th nominated approach from the east. She was clocked at 16h03'46" with an average speed of 1,355.11 m/min, good for the highest speed of all the pigeonsthat had already been clocked. In the end no other pigeon was able to beat ''Thiam'', who went on to win the 1st national Argenton from 21,915 youngsters, as the pigeon with the highest speed overall of 25,927 pigeons. In addition, a second young hen was clocked right after the national first prize winner at 16h07'57", and she in turn became 3rd National as the 3rd fastest pigeon of the pack.
We asked Jean-Marc if he had noticed if his two hens were more motivated than usual. He explained to us that the national winner had been coupled to a young cock for several weeks now, whereas his 3rd national was slowly starting to show an interest in the cocks of the team as well. You probably don't have to seek further to find an explanation for their performance.
