The combination Sauvage-Duran (Bornival, BE) crowned as National Champion Long Distance KBDB 2013!

We were already talking about this loft in july: they were achieving an ex-plo-si-ve season in 2013. There was no surprise when the national championships were released: this combination climbed on the highest rung of the podium in one of the most renowmed championship of the belgian pigeon sport!

Guy & Julien

It's in fact a young colony who struggled until the end against the most valuable loft of long distance from Belgium. Where everybody was expecting a big name at the top of this championship, it was finally a 'less reputated' loft who grabbed the national laurels. A 'less reputated' loft who is experiencing a quick growth and who showed an incredible constancy during this season. Here are the results sent for the first place in the national championship:

Date     Race         Distance      Result             Nbr pig          1st nom.       2nd nom

15/06 Cahors (710 km) - Prov : 1.302 pigeons : 30 & 43
22/06 Montauban (763 km) - Nat Zone : 2.016 pigeons : 115 & 166
13/07 Brive (639 km) - Prov : 1.178 pigeons : 9 & 20
03/08 Tulle (592 km) - Prov : 955 pigeons : 7 & 2

Behind the combination Sauvage-Duran, we find a young couple formed by Julien Sauvage and Virginie Duran. In fact, Julien is the main fancier as he created the actual colony himself. Aged of 34 years and working as a construction worker, he always wanted to race in the unique possibility to raise the top. He is helped by his father, Guy, who is from a great help as his son is working hard every day. Guy is in fact the principal manager, the one who take care of the pigeons most of the time. He is following the tips of his son and the less we can say is that it works perfectly.

Since five years, this loft is experiencing a quick growth. In 2009, they were enjoying their first classification in the national championship, category yearlings. Four years later, they are now crowned as national champion! Experiencing such a big grow is only possible when the cares given to the pigeons are perfect and when you are dealing with high quality pigeons. About that, Julien never looked at his pocket and when it's time to seek for new reinforcement, he is only looking at the cream of the crop. That's how we find back into the lofts from Bornival pigeons from Gaby Vandenabeele (Bliksem, Wittenbuik lines), Guido Loockx (Pantani line), Marc De Cock (Eagle Eye, Miss Fantastic lines) or again Erik Limbourg (Eagle Eye line), always with direct purchase. But these pigeons are always coming from the very best lines of these top lofts, he never looked for the 'sub-products'. They were crossed on the old lines of the loft built with pigeons from Willy Clerebaut (Ecaussinnes), Grégory Landercy (Ecaussinnes) but mostly from Frédéric Beukenne (Bruyelle).

About the method and the cares given to the pigeons, it's a mix between simplicity and modernity. The sixty racers (+/- 45 cocks & 15 racing hens) are all raced with the classic widowhood method (with staying at home partners) and they never breed before the season. At the medical level, the pigeons are followed by the veterinary surgeon Vincent Schroeder. The lofts are splendid: Julien has a loft in his garden where the young birds are raced. Next to this loft, there is an aviary where the pigeons are living during the winter. During the season, the racers are housed above the house, in the attics. This loft is really perfect and was equiped like the most beautiful loft of Belgium. Everything was built to have an enjoyable atmosphere and to make the work of the two fanciers easier. The pigeons are feeling good, the visitors also. The top of the top. Let's introduce you the best pigeons of the loft:

The best yearling of the loft, he has a extraordinary performance list for his age... but when you take a look at his pedigree, it's quite logical as he was bred from a pair looking like 'Son Eagle Eye' x 'Sister Mr Bergerac' !

National ace pigeon national?

Everybody heard about the unfortunate complaint made this autumn: the result of the national championship from the national ace pigeon small middle distance yearlings was suspended after the deposit of a reclamation. Julien is the person who did this complaint. In fact, he tought that the equity principle wasn't respected as in his area, the olds and the yearlings engaged in the small middle distance races happening in the month of august were regrouped to form only one category... a regroupment who was only done in a few belgian provinces, not in all (exactly the same thing that happened for the combination Vanoppen-Luyten). A complaint was sent, complaint who is seen as completely legitimate by a lot of people, moreover that the KBDB wasn't that explicit when they wrote the criteria of several national championships, as there was no obligation of 'differentiation' of the category when the criteria of the championships were published. Moreover, aware of the misunderstood, the KBDB quickly published a 'precision' about the criteria, publication done right after the season. But it was too late... Actually, the result of this championship is still uncertain and Julien have still the possibility to become the owner of a national ace pigeon!

Julien, congratulations for this awesome national title. We wish you a lot of happiness with your family and, in advance, a super season in 2014!
