Freddy & Jacques Vandenheede (Zingem, BE) win a 1st Provincial two weeks in a row

Last week the team celebrated its provincial victory from Valence, and last weekend they were victorious once again, this time winning a provincial first prize from Chateauroux against 4,740 yearlings.

The brothers Freddy and Jacques Vandenheede have clearly managed to get their racing team up to speed in recent weeks. They claimed their first victory of the season in the opening race of the national calendar from Bourges, and the Vandenheede pigeons continued to claim first prizes in the following weeks as well, adding several club wins to their palmares. Here is a brief overview:

27/5 Bourges 218 olds: 1-2…
27/5 Orleans 407 olds: 1-2-3-4-5…
27/5 Orleans 393 YL: 1…
04/6 Chateauroux 235 olds: 1…
04/6 Limoges 247 olds: 1-2…
10/6 Valence 46 olds: 1…
17/6 Chateauroux 374 YL: 1…

Their first prize at club level from Valence and Chateauroux has also resulted in a provincial victory. The second national long distance race of the season from Brive took place in the same weekend as Chateauroux, and team Vandenheede was quite successful there as well (2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th club). Here is a look at the provincial and national results of the past two weekends, just to illustrate:

10/6 Valence (670 km) Prov. 507 olds: 1-25 (2/2)
  Nat. 6,558 olds: 3-151 (2/2, preliminary results)

17/6 Chateauroux (476 km) Prov. 2,860 olds:
12-22-24-35-69-146-190-206-241-243-570 (11/11 p.)
17/6 Chateauroux (476 km) Prov. 4,740 yearlings:
226-235-245-261-272-284-286-305-382-384-396-403-430-447-489… (65/97 p.)

17/6 Brive Prov (657 km) Prov. 1,743 olds:
5-7-18-35-40-51-55-58-75-94… (18/28)
  Nat 9,126 olds: 19-24-73-145-170-220-234-237-278-326-412… (19/28)

This is quite a collection of top prizes indeed. Pigeons arrived home in quick succession, often together in small groups. Brive and Chateauroux took place in a headwind and in hot weather, which made for some tough racing, particularly suited for strong pigeons in top form. And the Vandenheede pigeons clearly seemed to fit that description.

1st Provincial Valence

Two hens were basketed for Valence, and they did a great job, as they each managed to win a top prize, including a provincial first prize and a 3rd National. This provincial first prize was won by racing hen 419/05, which was renamed Valenceke shortly after her impressive feat.

1st Provincial Chateauroux

The provincial race from Chateauroux on 17th of June was an excellent opportunity for the yearlings to showcase their talents, given the racing conditions (sunny with a slight headwind). One of these yearlings was Chavanel of the Vandenheede brothers, which proved to be the fastest of 4,740 yearlings.

This once again confirms the theory that talent breeds talent.

The magician from Zingem

Claiming two provincial first prizes in two week's time, one from Valence and one from Chateauroux, it leaves the fanciers from Zingem longing for more. This is in fact the 35th and 36th provincial first prize since the two brothers started working together in 2008. Together they have won an impressive 58 first prizes.

One question that remains is whether Freddy and Jacques will be able to make another step forward this season, and add another national victory to their palmares. What does the team have in store for us? You never know what to expect from a Vandenheede racing bird in top form, as you can tell from their 8 national first prizes since 2008 (and 15 national wins in total). Could they make that nine?
