Van Eynde-Goovaerts (Putte, BE) win Provincial Blois against 1,529 yearlings

Racing bird Wout not only won a provincial first prize in the yearlings' race, he was also the fastest pigeon from Blois in the province of Antwerp against 2,747 pigeons.

Marc Van Eynde and Joseph Goovaerts formed a team in 1996. Joseph was first of all a sprint fancier, while Marc was aiming for the middle distance and the longer middle distance. The sprint competition was losing much of its appeal in the region, and Joseph decided to pull out. His pigeon loft would now be used to keep the breeding pigeons, and the racing birds were kept in Marc's loft. They wanted to do well in the races of 300 to 750km.

The most fundamental bloodline in this pigeon breed is that of the neighbouring loft of Jos and Jules Engels. Descendants from basically every top class pigeon of Engels were introduced in Putte. These heavily inbred pigeons were also well suited for crossings, and so they were crossed with pigeons of Dirk Van Dijck from Zandhoven (youngsters of Kannibaal, Rambo and Bourges), Luc Daans from Begijnendijk (from Dikke Brul), and Jos Maris from Itegem (the line of Vriend). The introduction of Gaston Van de Wouwer (Kaasboer bloodline) proved a great success as well. These were great sprint pigeons and early prize winners, and they managed to add some speed to the Engels pigeon breed. Marc thinks their breed now has the perfect combination of endurance (the Engels breed) and speed (Van de Wouwer and Van Dyck). These bloodlines continue to play a fundamental role in this pigeon family.

1st Provincial Blois yearlings

Wout, their fresh winner from Blois, originates from these bloodlines as well. He is a cock from the third round of 2015, and he already did a number of training flights in the longer middle distance in his year of birth. He soon demonstrated his talent by winning a number of early prizes. He managed to live up to the expectations this season, as he claimed a victory in the very first provincial race of his career.
