Marcel Sangers, who races in a partnership with Paul Ung, has been at the national top level since 1999. He started out in 1980 where he had to release his first pigeons from his balcony. The ever-ambitious Marcel wanted more and in 1988, after his military service, he bought a new house together with his wife Christel. When he moved again in 2007 with his wife and their son Brian, this time to a house in Eefde, he was still at the top of pigeon racing in Belgium. In no time did he manage to reach his previous level and his opponents had not expected him back at the top so soon. Everybody knew that he has been very ambitious for the so called NPO races since 2005. It was a good decision to focus on the NPO races: he has had some outstanding performances from 2005 to 2011:

He owes his outstanding results to the pigeons of Berti Camphuis. His line of the Fameuze 05 has bred the stock father Super Breeder. At this time the cock is still very important in the breeding loft of Marcel. But he is well aware that stagnation means decline so he decided to turn his team of sprint and middle distance racers into one of the most prestigious one day long distance lofts of The Netherlands. The main ingredient here was without a doubt the Koopman pigeon. The integration of these bloodlines in his lofts was a big step forward for Marcel. Since 2005 he has never had any less successful periods in his career. But he was realistic enough to know it might take him three to four years to regain his position at the national top level.
Due to his move to Eefde he had to transfer his best racing and breeding pigeons to his new breeding loft, including The Golden Crown, Pigem, Hayabusa King, the Gun line and his Vale donders! These pigeons allowed Marcel to get amazing results but also to get him back at the top in the 2009 season. This was a dream come true; since then Marcel has had the following top results:
1st NPO Chateaudun 6,062 pigeons 1st NPO Chateauroux 2,957 pigeons 1st Prv. Ace pigeon youngsters 36,981 pigeons 1st Prv. Ace pigeon one day long dist. district 8 1st Nat. With these fantastic results the 2012 season was started. His very best pigeons were kept in the racing loft and were assisted by a promising team of yearlings. But even his pigeons do not guarantee a successful season. His pigeons had a few setbacks in the beginning of the season: his champions Tom and Buddahari could not be raced due to a hindered pre-season build-up, Black Diamond had a broken feather which Marcel was unable to fix and top class pigeon Edani had been injured in Paris. At the moment Edani is back in the loft of Marcel.
We often hear fanciers say: “You only need one very good bird”. Marcel agrees with that. But the fact that he could reach the very top was thanks to the fact that he had more than one very good bird, he had several exceptional pigeons. For the fancier it was a hard blow when these pigeons were no longer there. The pigeons of Marcel perform very well in tough weather and were again successful at regional level this season. The last race from Tours had some tough weather conditions and that is when his pigeons did very well at national level as well. The 2011 season had strong tailwinds and high speeds almost every week. Marcel: “In these conditions it is difficult to excel with first class pigeons who win top prizes over long distance races. That is why I favour races with a velocity of 1,000 to 1,200 m/min where the pigeons have a really hard time to get back home.” The result was an exceptional season with a 1st nominated champion one day long distance and a regional 2nd not nominated champion one day long distance. In the strong long distance club Ijsselstreek Marcel had won the first champion one day long distance race three years in a row. But this season he had to be satisfied with a 2nd champion one day long distance. But all in all Marcel Sangers and his companion Paul Ung can look back at a great season!

Three words to describe Marcel? Top class pigeons, discipline and vigorousness. The pigeons born in Eefde have a hard but fair selection procedure. If they are able to meet the demands there is a great career ahead of them. Let's take a look at some of his top class pigeons:
Co-winner of 1st regional champion one day long dist. nominated '12 1st Ace pigeon one day long distance club 2012 4th Ace pigeon long distance club IJsselstreek 2012

Marcel, Christel and Brian Sangers (and their good friend Paul Ung) have proved that they can have a great season despite the setbacks. We wonder if their young birds will be doing as well as in the last few weeks. It would be a nice way to end this season. It was a season to remember for Sangers/Ung.
We wish the Sangers/Ung team good luck for the final races of the 2012 season!
