A report on the provisional result of the British Barcelona Club race from Fougères on 2nd July 2016

Two hundred and six members sent one thousand, eight hundred and fifty-six birds to the British Barcelona Club race from Fougères. They were liberated at 6.15 BST into clear blue skies with a light westerly breeze. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members' verifications.

Roger Lowe

Roger Lowe of Reading was first open and first section D with a yearling hen on 1430ypm. Roger's hen was bred from Rocky, a De Raw Sablon cock that is the sire of many winners and was bred by F & J Vandenheede. The dam is Lady Jane, a direct Daniel Aerens pigeon the dam of which was fifth ace pigeon over five seasons in the PIPA international PIPA ranking. Roger sent twenty-three and had twenty-two on the day.

Peter Wells with granddaughter Cydney

Second open and second section D was a yearling hen timed by Peter Wells of Dunstable on 1426ypm. The sire of this winner is a son of Dave Albon's Midlands National winner from Tours, whilst the dam is a daughter of Les Jones' NFC Bordeaux winner, Joe.

Don Green

Don Green of Monks Risborough was third open and third section D with a yearling cock on 1425ypm. Don timed a Vandenabeele bred from a Gordon Brothers' cock when paired to Saffron 222, which was bred by Myrtle Lofts. A consistent racer, this cock was Don's first pigeon home from the tough Messac race earlier in the season.

Mick Carrick

Mr and Mrs Carrick and Son of Chesham clocked five in quick succession, three yearlings and two, two year olds to take fourth to eighth open and section D. First to clock was on 1422.6ypm, then 1422.5, 1416.9, 1416.5 and 1413ypm. First on the clock was a pigeon bred from two Bordeaux national winners, whilst the second contains Kees Boshua bloodlines. Third on the clock was a grandaughter of Drum.

Jaimie Clarke

J Clarke and Daughter from Selling were ninth open and first section G with a yearling on 1411ypm. Jaimie timed a hen raced on the roundabout system and containing Millennium Super Star and Heartbreaker bloodlines that he obtained from Ronnie Williamson of Northern Ireland.

Mark Brown

Completing the top ten and in first section C are Mark and Clare Brown of  Woodland St Mary with a yearling cock on 1406ypm. Raced on the natural system and sent with a seven day squeaker in the nest, this cock contains Gaby Vandenabeele and Koopmna Van Dyke bloodlines.

Around the sections

First section A was a yearling timed on 1405ypm for M Shipp of Portsmouth. Buddy timed a blue hen, a grandaughter of Champion Ray which contains Kees Boshua bloodlines.

Colin Edwards

C Edwards of Romsey was second section A with a two year old on 1374ypm. Colin timed a dark Vandenabeele hen bred from the best of Bob Short and Barrie Smith bloodlines. Raced on the natural system, it was sent sitting ten day eggs.

Darling and Ede of Southampton were third section A.

Stuart Jack

S Jack of Salisbury timed two pigeons to take first and second section B, both three year olds on 1369.7 and 1369.5ypm respectively. Stuart's two widowhood cocks, which were father and son, arrived together. Both cocks contain Heremans Ceusters x Jules Severi bloodlines obtained from a cock bred by Gordon Emm of Salisbury.

John Halstead

John Halstead of Gillingham was third section B. John timed a Hardy Kruger widowhood cock that was third club from Fougères the previous week and so an obvious choice for the British Barcelona Club race.

Graham Clift

Graham Clift of Tirley timed a yearling on 1353ypm to take second section C. The sire of this hen was bred from a son of Southfield Supreme that has bred numerous winners for Mark Sparey, including first Welsh National, when paired to a daughter of Geoff and Catherione Cooper's Farmer George. The dam is a direct daughter of George.

Steve Slade of Calne was third section C.

Nigel Shaw

Mr and Mrs N Shaw of Basford timed two pigeons to take first and second section E on 1377 and 1376ypm respectively. First on the clock was a yearling Van Loon hen bred by Chris Platt and raced celibate. Next to time was a four year old widowhood cock that contains Janssen bloodlines. Nigel sent ten and had all ten on the day.

Gene Rigby

Gene Rigby of Telford was third section E. Gene timed a Busschaert x Wildermeersch hen.

Fred Hall

F Hall and Daughters from Worthing were second section G with a yearling on 1387ypm. Fred's pigeon was a yearling cock on its first ever channel race. The sire is a grandson of Chipo, Benny Stevenink x Syndicate Lofts, whilst the dam was bred by Steve Radcliffe and is a daughter of the Good Pair that the lofts share at stock.

Mr and Mrs Smith and Son from Guildford were third section G.

Rob & Andrew Wilton

The section J winner was D Wilton and Son from Chadwell St Mary with a yearling on 1355ypm. Rob and Andrew clocked a yearling hen raced on the natural system and sent sitting eggs. This hen contains Brockamp bloodlines.

Trevor & Adrian Wilson

Trevor and Adrian Wilson of Manuden were second section J with a two year old on 1333ypm. This cock was bred by Billy Maples and contains Leo Van Rijn bloodlines.

J and J Brady of Benfleet were third section J.
