Hebberecht is a household name in pigeon racing. It stands for more than 50 years of great success in the national long distance and extreme long distance. The passion for pigeon racing was passed on from father to son. It all began with grandfather Henri, a renowned sprint fancier at the time. His son Octaaf raised the bar, turning into a highly reputable long distance fancier. And then we have Chris Hebberecht, who got involved in the sport from very early on. He raced together with his father Octaaf as a youngster, and eventually took over the entire team when his father passed in 1999. Meanwhile, the team continued to focus on the old birds' races in the long distance and the extreme long distance.
Chris Hebberecht turned into a great star and one of Belgium's leading names in the national long distance. He wins races and he lets other fanciers win as well: his pigeons have demonstrated their potential in lofts across the globe! His birds have won first prizes and ace pigeon titles in the Million Dollar Race, the Thailand Grand Pigeon Race, the Belgian Masters and the Victoria Falls. That's right, the Hebberecht breed has excelled in some of the most prestigious competitions worldwide. And let's not forget their many national top results and national ace pigeon titles at home, including the following titles in 2018 alone: 1st Champion Extreme Long Distance OVV-FVOV 2018, 2nd National Team Relay (together with the Desbuquois brothers), 2nd Extreme Long Distance AJD 2018, 2nd Marathon Champion & 2nd General Champion Marathon Riddersclub, 10th Prov. Champion Long Distance olds & YLs KBDB East Flanders 2018, as well as a title of 7th National Champion Extreme Long Distance & Long Distance YLs KBDB in the national championships KBDB. This last title was won by an excellent team of yearlings with a very bright future, according to Chris.
A breed based around national ace pigeons
Among the national ace pigeons that played a defining role in this breed are AXL (1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Exteme Long Distance KBDB 2005), Pancho (1st Prov. and 2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2004) and Champion (1st Prov. and 2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2005). Champion is perhaps the most famous of them; his descendants have really dominated the competition in recent years, along with the descendants of such renowned long distance birds as Ike (1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2010), Jaws (3rd Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2010), Eros (6th Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2015, a son of Jaws), Edou (7th Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2016), and Jempy (half brother of champion, the sire of Ike). We reckon these names will sound familiar to many of you.

Lord: best pigeon from Agen over two seasons
In the long distance, you often come across racing birds that are fond of one specific race in particular, where they deliver every single season. And it happens quite often that fanciers continue to basket their birds for their favourite races. As a result, these pigeons usually show up in the rankings for best birds over 2, 3 or 4 seasons, or in the Primus Inter Pares competition for Barcelona (five seasons).
Last year, Chris Hebberecht had Belgium's best pigeon from Perpignan over two seasons (2016-2017) in his collection: Lotus. We also saw racing bird Lord come to the fore this season, a pigeon particularly fond of the international race from Agen: he is Belgium's best bird in Agen in 2017-2018, and he is likely to become Belgium's best bird over 4 seasons as well, for 2015-2018. Let's have a look at his fantastic palmares at national level:

7th National Champion Long Distance & Extreme Long Distance Yearlings KBDB
It would be hard to imagine a season in which Chris Hebberecht does not win a national championship title. He added several national titles KBDB to his palmares again in 2018, now in the yearlings' category long distance and extreme long distance - the two categories that the KBDB merged a few years ago. Chris is quite pleased with this title, since it allows him to look towards the future with confidence. After all, 2018 has been a very difficult season, especially for the one year olds racing in the national long distance. Chris decided to be rather careful with his promising one year olds: he would only basket a limited number of yearlings for each long distance race. And that was a smart move, with excellent results in Angoulême (6/6), Tulle (2/2), Brive (2/2), Agen (2/2), Jarnac (4/6) and Limoges (9/13).
One of Chris's favourite one year old racing cocks would be his local winner from Angoulême (and 14th National), which put up a show in sun-drenched conditions, with a temperature of more than 30°C and a slight headwind. That is what we call demanding conditions.

That race from Angoulême took place on 4th of August, in perhaps the most difficult weather of 2018. The pigeons of Hebberecht managed to win three first prizes in the club that day: a 1st prize olds and yearlings from Angoulême, as well as a first prize from Perpignan, all three won with their first nominated pigeon.
A top class inbred pigeon family
The pigeon breed of today is still centered around the fantastic old bloodlines of the late Octaaf, which Chris continued to refine over the years. The team's best racing birds are all closely related, and they are still being combined and paired to each other. It is no surprise that so many other fanciers have invested in pigeons of the inbred Hebberechts family over the years: their bloodlines are really suited for reinforcements, and quite a number of fanciers were very successful with them, all across the globe. This pigeon breed has pushed its own team and many other lofts to new heights, even in the demanding 2018 season:
