Leo & Gerry Dockx (Berlaar, BE) successful at home and abroad with Tarzan bloodline

The combination from the town of Berlaar, home to quite a few successful teams, had its national breakthrough in 2013 with a national first prize from Nevers with racing bird Jente. They continued to deliver the following season, with Tarzan winning the title of National Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB YBs. That same Tarzan is now showing his potential in the breeding loft.

2 crucial bloodlines

The success story of father and son Dockx took root all the way back in 2008: it was then that they met Gaston Van de Wouwer, who was willing to share his knowledge and his experiences with them. Gaston gave them some helpful ideas for the design of their new lofts, and he also gave them a number of pigeons from his now world famous Kaasboer bloodline. Meanwhile about 90% of this pigeon family is related to this bloodline. Jente, their national first prize winner from Nevers in 2013 (of 11,579 pigeons) is in fact an inbred Kaasboer.

Another important chapter in this success story is Rik Cools (Ruiselede, BE), another national champion. The combination met with the West Flemish fancier in 2013. They got along really well, and soon a group of about 15 pigeons moved to Berlaar. One year later, in 2014, they claim the title of 1st National Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB with Tarzan, a 100% Rik Cools. And more importantly, this breed, which was mainly based around the Kaasboer bloodline of Van de Wouwer at the time, appeared to combine really well with the pigeons of Cools.

It was the start of a very successful career, with for instance a championship title longer middle distance young birds in 2017 in the competitive long distance club in Bevel (the club of such renowned players as Roziers-Xiang, Willy Daniëls, Gaston Van de Wouwer, Van Eynde-Goovaerts, Stefaan Lambrechts, Wim De Troy), as well as a championship title young birds in the Antwerp long distance club "Union Antwerp".

Peter van de Merwe (Dordrecht, NL) highly successful with Blauwe Leo

Blauwe Leo BE16-6047206 is a perfect example of the highly successful combination of the Van de Wouwer and the Rik Cools pigeon breed.

Blauwe Leo was bred by Leo & Gerry but he quickly moved to the lofts of Dutch champion Peter van de Merwe. His palmares is impressive:

1st Duffel of 540 pigeons
2nd Provinciaal Arras of 12,475 pigeons
4th NPO Pont-Sint-Maxence of 12,751 pigeons
7th Duffel of 326 pigeons
13th Fontenay of 1,296 pigeons
34th Pontoise of 6,521 pigeons
34th Peronne of 3,803 pigeons
63rd Peronne of 8,965 pigeons

The sire of Blauwe Leo is none other than Tarzan BE14-623069, 1st National Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs KBDB 2014. Tarzan was bred from 2 direct Rik Cools pigeons. He is mainly related to the lines of the renowned Bliksem of Gaby Vandenabeele (Dentergem, BE) through his father's side. He is also related to the best birds of Rik Hermans (Pulle, BE) and again Gaby Vandenabeele through his dam. Click here for the full pedigree of Tarzan.

The dam of Blauwe Leo is Fenna. Fenna is a 100% Gaston Van de Wouwer. Fenna was also a talented racing bird with the following prizes on her palmares:

1st Noyon of 975 pigeons
4th National Montluçon of 11,056 pigeons
5th National Argenton of 22,463 pigeons
12th Interprovincial Vierzon of 9,004 pigeons
66th National Argenton of 3,671 pigeons

Blauwe Leo has proven to be an invaluable breeder for team Van de Merwe as well, with a youngster of Blauwe Leo claiming a 1st NPO Melun of 8,893 pigeons just last weekend.

Top class breeding pair Tarzan x Fenna

We reckon you cannot go wrong with a pigeon family that is based for 90% on the best bloodlines of fellow fancier Gaston Van de Wouwer, combined with the invaluable breed of Rik Cools (which is related to the best of Vandenabeele). Leo and Gerry have come across a fantastic breeding pair with Tarzan and Fenna, which is a good example of the two pigeon families being put together. Other renowned fanciers, including Peter van de Merwe, have been very successful with their descendants. Take for instance Blauwe Leo, a proven racing and breeding bird. We look forward to the next chapter in this success story.
