Adrien Mirabelle and the loft of his widower cocks
Adrien Mirabelle had a spectacular racing season in 2016. It was a memorable year indeed, with some overwhelming results in the national championships KBDB shorter middle distance. He was truly outstanding in this category, winning the following championship titles and ace pigeons:
-1st National Champion Shorter Middle Distance KBDB olds & YLs 2016 -3rd National Ace Pigeon Shorter Middle Distance old birds KBDB 2016 -5th National Ace Pigeon Shorter Middle Distance old birds KBDB 2016 -5th National Ace Pigeon Shorter Middle Distance yearlings KBDB 2016 -6th National Ace Pigeon Shorter Middle Distance yearlings KBDB 2016 -8th National Ace Pigeon Shorter Middle Distance old birds KBDB 2016 -14th National Champion Longer Middle Distance old birds KBDB 2016
Well done! It must be very satisfying for a fairly young fancier to see how his hard work is really starting to pay off. It can only encourage him to keep going, and to try and do even better. In addition, he sets a perfect example for anyone looking to get involved in the sport at an early age. He shows how youthful enthusiasm can beat the dyed in the wool fanciers. A top quality pigeon breed and a talented fancier can get you anywhere. This is a story of getting the full potential from your racing team.

The racing loft and his national ace pigeons KBDB 2016
Ghlin; his home base since 2015
It is safe to say Adrien Mirabelle (28) is a highly talented fancier from a new generation of players. Young, driven, eager to learn, and determined to make it to the very top. Adrien got involved in the sport at an early age through his grandfather. He and his grandfather were waiting for the pigeons to arrive home from Bourges in the loft of Jean-Claude Debiève, and it was then that he saw a national winner arrive home for the first time. He was captivated right away, and he knew he wanted to win a national race himself one day. His interest in pigeons faded for a while when he went to school but it came back in late 2008. Adrien decided to form a team with the son of J.C. Debiève for a few years, and he learned some valuable information in these couple of years. He started to race under his own name again in 2011, with the help of his grandfather. His lofts in Quaregnon serve as the team's home base, 10km from Adrien's home. He kept his old birds in his grandfather's loft for the last time in 2014. Adrien created a new loft in the garden of his parents in Ghlin, where he kept a team of young birds for the first time in 2014. His first full-time season in Ghlin was 2015.
The old birds' team had a great last season in Quaregnon, winning the title of 1st Nat. Champion Shorter Middle Distance YLs KBDB 2014 (under the name of Vandam-Mirabelle), as well as a 1st-4th-10th Nat. Ace Pigeon Shorter Middle Distance YLs 2014. His 2015 season would be quite a challenging one but Adrien was motivated and he worked hard, trying to exceed his results of last year. His team quickly got used to the new environment and they achieved some great results from day one.

Meanwhile Adrien and his girlfriend and their ten months old daughter (they are expecting a son somewhere in June or July) moved to a new home just a few houses away from his parents’ house. His garden provides a direct access to the pigeon lofts in his parents’ garden.
The real stars were allowed to stay in his grandfather’s loft as breeders. These pigeons were the successful old breed, enhanced with some of the best Bart Geerinckx pigeons, pigeons from the PEC an some other long distance investments. His biggest dream and his number one objective has always been to create a pigeon family that can compete with the best in the national long distance races, but he would also love to excel in Barcelona one day. His idea would be to set up a dedicated loft for this race, filled with some specific Barcelona pigeons that come from the loft of Joost De Smeyter, which he already purchased some pigeons from in the past.
He is also making plans to further expand his existing accommodation, to create room for possibly a third or even fourth round of youngsters, and to finally be able to move his entire team of breeders to Ghlin as well.
Pigeon racing is all about being the fastest, and about winning races. It explains why Adrien has always been focusing on true winners and ace pigeons, not just in the racing team but also in the breeding loft. It might explain why he managed to make it to the top so quickly.
The pigeons from his old foundation all have a proven record: they are mid-sized pigeons with a lot of speed and explosive strength in their wings. They are full of life, and they have somewhat shorter muscle fibres. They are particularly suited for races of 400 to 500km, which they demonstrated again in 2016. Only two years after moving to their new loft in Ghlin, and two years after he won a national title in Quaregnon, Adrien Mirabelle was celebrated in Brussels as the number one fancier in Belgium, winning the title of 1st National Champion Shorter Middle Distance KBDB old birds and yearlings. He had an impressive 8.6476% coefficient over 5 races (with ten prizes).
Believe it or not, Adrien assumed that the national championship shorter middle distance took place separately for the olds and yearlings, causing him to work hard up until the very last race to try and get a good coefficient across the two categories. It was his colleague and friend Sébastien Casaert who reminded him that the championship shorter middle distance for olds and yearlings was a single competition. Adrien was planning to basket his best two pigeons for the closing race from Bourges II, aiming to win a top result at national level, but Sébastien advised against it. Adrien agreed not to basket them. The two pigeons then completed their last race in the shorter middle distance instead, where they finished in 2nd and 3rd place of 249 yearlings, which proved crucial in Adrien winning his national title! It was an interesting turn of events, and it shows that championship titles are often a close call. We take a look at the best racing birds of 2016:

That same stock breeder Supreme is also the sire of Trixie, which Adrien considers to be the best pigeon in his collection so far. Despite getting lost in the early season she still won a decent result in the ace pigeon championships and the Olympiad. Her achievements clearly show how talented she really was:

This is a fantastic collection of racing birds that clearly illustrates the level of quality in the lofts of Mirabelle, and this has resulted in great results in other lofts that have obtained pigeons of the fancier from Ghlin. Click here for a number of top references of fanciers that were successful with pigeons of Adrien Mirabelle.
Adrien is particularly fond of pigeons in great health, which he tries to keep healthy using several natural products. During the racing season a vet visits the loft every three weeks to check on the pigeons. However, if the pigeons fail to deliver over the weekend, Adrien wants to know what is wrong and he calls in the vet right away. He uses the already famous yellow drops against tricho; any other treatments are used only on the advice of the vet.
Vision and future
Like we said, Adrien is aiming to develop a team of ol birds to excel in the national long distance in the near future. He also plans to put his young birds to the test straight away, just like he used to do in the past, creating a team for the national young birds' races.
As you can see, Adrien is a young fancier with plenty of ambition. He has some ambitious goals and he has been able to achieve those goals, winning national titles and several national ace pigeons KBDB, which makes him well-respected fancier. You can tell how valuable a pigeon breed really is from the number of championship and ace pigeon titles it can win. Needless to say, Adrien Mirabelle is doing really well. Many congratulations!
