Vermeerbergen-Wilms-Mostmans (Rijkevorsel, BE) outstanding in the sprint competition for young birds in 2015

The successful Vermeerbergen-Wilms-Mostmans combination had a brilliant season in the sprint competition for young birds. The combination won the title of 3rd Nat. Champion KBDB Sprint Young Birds and 2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon KBDB Sprint Young Birds in Rijkevorsel, where Kris Mostmans keeps a team of racing birds.

From left to right: Kris Mostmans, Luc Vermeerbergen and Robby Wilms

Luc Vermeerbergen and Robby Wilms founded the successful Vermeerbergen-Wilms combination in 2011, and this team developed into one of the country's most renowned young birds' lofts. Their breed is founded on the invaluable bloodline of stock breeder Lucky Luc, a Heremans pigeon that can be found in nearly every pedigree here. Another exceptional bloodline is that of National Wonder (BE14-6168603). He was the best Belgian pigeon over 5 and 6 national races in 2014, and his brothers, sisters and other descendants have been winning quite a number of top prizes as well. Team Vermeerbergen-Wilms was also responsible for perhaps the most impressive achievement of 2015: they won a 1st (grandchild Lucky Luc), a 2nd (sister National Wonder), a 3rd and a 4th (grandson Lucky Luc) National from Chateauroux against 10,442 pigeons.

A new combination was founded in 2014 with Kris Mostmans from Rijkevorsel. Luc knew that Kris was quite a successful fancier in the sprint combination. Kris was winning prizes with pigeons from his own breed, combined with the sprint champions of Robby Wilms from Mol. This gave way to the start of this new Vermeerbergen-Wilms-Mostmans combination, which would now be racing from two different locations. The first round from the impressive Vermeerbergen-Wilms breeding loft is raced in Mol; the second round of young birds is kept in Rijkevorsel, in the loft of Kris. This approach allows them to put the breeding loft to the test in the young birds' races.

Kris managed to become 1st Provincial Champion Sprint Young Birds in his very first season (2014), while also winning a 1st Nat. Zone Guéret against 3,593 pigeons. He continued to perform well in 2015 with a 3rd Nat. Champion KBDB Sprint Young Birds and a 2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon KBDB Sprint Young Birds. This second round of young birds is darkened and is raced with the sliding door. Kris allows the pigeons to spend a few hours together before being basketed, and they are separated at the end of the day after finishing a race. As you can see, he does not use any additional motivational techniques. We take a look at some of the young birds' results in Rijkevorsel in 2015 (all won in Quievrain 126km):

The National Wonder Family

Luc Vermeerbergen and Robby Wilms had agreed to start working together, and they managed to become a nationally renowned team in just a few years' time. The new combination of Vermeerbergen-Wilms-Mostmans based in Rijkevorsel proved another great success, having achieved remarkable results in just two seasons' time. Both these combinations can be considered among Belgium's strongest young birds' teams around. This has been a success story, thanks to the experience of Luc, the passion of Robby and Kris, and of course a top quality breeding loft.
