Christmas is a time of giving, and a time to show our friends and family how much they mean to us. Sending Christmas greetings has become a tradition, and it is a way of showing to your beloved ones that you really care about them. It is perhaps a good idea to try and express your gratitude, instead of simply wishing them a merry christmas and a happy new year.
Christmas is a time of new life, symbolised by the birth of Jesus. Compare it to the pigeon as a symbol of peace. We sometimes get the impression that peace is far away, as the media continue to report on murder, terrorist attacks, war, and the recent case of hostagetaking. We are a long way from peaceful times.
Our pigeons and our sport have allowed us to establish relationships all over the world and between different generations and cultures. This creates a sense of unity among fanciers. Pigeon racing creates close and intense friendships and it creates a dialogue between people worldwide. It is perhaps this dialogue between people that can really change our world, acting as a strong weapon for peace.
Most of the pigeons will have a few eggs in their baskets by this time of the year, and some might have already started to hatch. New life brings new hopes and beliefs, as fanciers are hoping that their new purchase or their new pairing will bring a new generation of prize winners or cracks. No wonder we all take great care of our newly born youngsters. Hope springs eternal.
The Christmas crib has been put up, the Christmas tree has been decorated, and the house is full of Christmas lights. This is a party that we celebrate at home with our family, friends and loved ones. Christmas is the time for a delicious meal, a good glass of wine, and a lot of presents under the tree. Let’s make this a warm and cosy evening. Enjoy!
We wish everyone peace, love and hope - today, tomorrow, and forever.
