Bryan Williams
Leading the way was the Ystradgynlais (Wales) loft of Bryan and Anthony Williams. Their winning hen is bred down from their main line of Van Reets and was sent sitting eggs. Raised on the darkness system she has been to every race bar the first of the young bird season. Training consists of twelve tosses to 22 miles and then twice daily flights around the loft.
Mr and Mrs Crathorne
Mr and Mrs Crathorne of Manchester clocked the second placed pigeon. This was a pencil cock named Kiln Galileo, the sire of which was purchased at the bereavement sale for Graham Ward, this being a red Sion cock. The dam of their winner was bred for stock by their good friend George Gould.
Preece Brothers and Sons
In third open is the partnership of Preece Brothers and Sons from Cwmtillery (Wales). The partners clocked a blue cock flying celibate. Their winner is Lefebre Dhaenen x Van Loon and is bred from a stock cock which has sired many winners at national level. In turn he is the son of the partners' champion Gwasted Ryder, a winner of ten first prizes.
John and David Staddon
John and David Staddon from Evercreech in Somerset were fourth open, topping a fantastic season for them as they were first and fourth open BICC Carentan, second and fifteenth open Falaise and now fourth open Guernsey with young birds. The partners also clocked an old hen to be provisionally fifteenth open in that result as well. Their young bird winner is bred from a pair of Mark Gilbert middle distance pigeons. The sire, Shapway Supreme is a grandson of Southfield Supreme.
Dennis and Jean Chambers
Fifth open was to the lofts of Dennis and Jean Chambers from Bromham. This was a chequer cock raised on the darkness system, which was bred from a pair of Kuwaiti birds the partners bought at a one loft race auction in 2004. These are mainly Janssen based birds and they have bred other winners.
Brian Sheppard from Trowbridge clocked sixth open which was a young bird gifted to him by Bob Fenech. This cock contains the best lines of Bob's lightning fast Cooremans and was sent calling his hen to nest. This is his third race from Guernsey this season.
Templecombe fancers Gary and Prilly Hodges clocked seventh open. This was a Sheldon Leonard x Mark Dorrington hen bred in January and raised on the darkness system. She was prepared for Guernsey by flying a number of races with the West of England South Road Combine.
Next on the result is the Devizes partnership of Howse and Parsons. The partners had two birds drop together, full brothers, the sire of which is a Soontjen from Frank Sheader lines. The dam is a full sister to the partners' National Flying Club merit winner.
Kenny and Segesdy's ninth open winner
Ninth open went to the Wantage loft of Kenny and Segesdy. Their section winner is becoming a real star, as he was first section F, third open in the National Flying Club Fourgères race last week. A blue chequer cock, his breeding is M & D Evans Gaby Vandenabeele x Mark Kidby Van Trieste. The partners sent twenty birds to the race and had eighteen on the day.
Crowley and Green's tenth open winner
Tenth open went to the Somerset partnership of Anna Crowley and Richard Green. The partners' winner was bred from stock obtained from Santens Brothers of Oudenaarde, Belgium. They obtained four cocks in 2006 but had to wait until 2007 to get the hens to pair to them. These eight stock birds have bred many winners for the partnership.
Meg Murray
The winner of the east section is Meg Murray of Burnham on Crouch. Meg's winner is three quarters Staf Van Reet x one quarter Soontjen and the sire came from the loft of Meg's clubmate Lee Bastone. He has bred many winners including the pigeon that was fourth open, second section from Guernsey a fortnight previously.
