In Memoriam
Heinz Seegmuller
On Monday the Long Distance world lost a great champion in the 70 year-old Heinz Seegmuller from Grossteinhausen (G). A double pneumonia followed by a cardiac arrest brought an end to the life of a person that was liked everywhere. His successes in the Extreme Distance were unprecedented. He is the record holder with six international triumphs from Pau, Perpignan, Marseille, Dax, Narbonne (h.) and Biaritz. In addition ten national victories decorate his brilliant honours list. In 2007 he clocked the five fastest pigeons from international Barcelona and also had the 1st and 2nd national Ace pigeon. He also raced very strongly last season. The very strong Long Distance pedigree of Havenith, that came from his friend, the late Willy Linz from Keulen, laid the basis of the many years of successes. His “Narbonne Hen”, 1st internat. Narbonne, which was born from this eminent strain, developed into a real stock mother. But also the international winners from Pau and Marseille have made a big impression on his colony. Heinz Seegmuller caused a sensation when he bought the world famous “Kleine Didi”, the best Long Distance pigeon ever, from Etienne Devos in Deerlijk for 250.000 G Mark. He won 1st nat. Dax, 2nd nat. Perpignan, 47th nat. Brive, etc. His children worked wonders in Grossteinhausen. Seegmuller’s favourite cock “Kunz” (2nd nat. San Sebastian, 11th nat. Perpignan, 13th nat. Marseille), was one of the grandchildren. The crack from Grossteinhausen surprised the Long Distance world once again when he bought “Exceptionnel” who was the 1st Ace pigeon of Belgium with 2nd nat. Narbonne, 18th nat. Limoges, etc, for an enormous amount of money. His hunger for Ace pigeons was never satisfied. He also bought the famous “Den Driebander” from Sierens-Van den Broeke from Zwevegem with 3rd nat. Brive, 6th, 13th, 31st and 50th nat. Narbonne. Amongst his heavy investments, with which he was very successful, were also the “Wereldkampioen” from v. Bree and the “Spijker”, car winner by Jo Arets, Puth. Many people had success with his pigeons and one of them was his best friend Fons van Ophuizen from Landgraaf (N.). A daughter of his Pau winner was the golden stock pigeon and mother of the famous “Rambo Barcelona”, grandfather of the 1st internat. Barcelona ’04 in the loft of the European champion. Unfortunately the Long Distance fanciers will no longer see his name in the results. Heinz Seegmuller has taken his last flight to heaven where he will get a well-earned place. His name will remain a legend eternally.
The editorial staff of PIPA would like to offer their condolences to the family of Heinz Seegmuller.
We wish the family & close friends a lot of strenght !
