Gerard and Bas Verkerk confirm their status in the PIPA rankings for The Netherlands 2015
PIPA rankings The Netherlands
At the start of the 2015 season PIPA introduced its PIPA rankings for fanciers from The Netherlands for the first time. They were introduced as a means to let the best Dutch pigeons shine and to give them the international attention they deserve. The final rankings that have been published so far include many big names, along with a few outsiders as well. Gerard and Bas Verkerk, which have been a main contender in all national competitions, have once again demonstrated the value of their pigeon breed by winning several top prizes across several PIPA rankings for The Netherlands. We will be talking about father and son Verkerk later on in this article, but we begin with an overview of their top 10 results in the different PIPA rankings:

The PIPA rankings for The Netherlands have been introduced for the first time this season, and the first PIPA Rankings title that goes to Gerard and Bas Verkerk is that of Best middle distance/long distance pigeon in The Netherlands. This ranking is based on the best seven results in the races over a distance of 300 to 799.999km in the province. At least one top result has to be won in race of between 500 and 799.999km (with pigeons born in 2014 or earlier). NL13-1239602 Kiki-Kate has won the highest number of points in this category and is thus the winner of this title. She is a blue coloured two year old hen. Her pedigree shows the familiar names of such Olympiad Pigeons as NL04-2050373 Olympic Sponge Bob and NL07-1817923 Olympic Solange. This is just one of many highly talented racing birds this season, all of which are related to several top class parents or grandparents. Kiki-Kate won the title with the following results:

Many highlights for this loft in 2015
The Verkerk pigeons did great in the PIPA rankings but they have been performing really well throughout the season. We introduce you to one of the main actors this season: the NL13-1239517 Expectation once more showed the true potential of the Verkerk pigeon breed, claiming a first prize in the NPO race from Vierzon (11,506 p.): this breed is capable of winning top prizes in the most important races of their favourite discipline: the one day long distance. The parents of Expectation, Bulldozer x Olympic Solange, illustrate the breeding strategy of this loft, which is based on Ace Pigeons and Olympiad Pigeons. Click here for the pedigree of Expectation.
Teletext prizes
The pigeons of G & S Verkerk have won no less than 18 national teletext prizes in 2015, and the highlights were the NPO races from Vierzon and Chateauroux: no less than 6 top prizes have been won in these two races. An overview of their most impressive results in 2015 can be found here. All top 25 prizes in the one day long distance races NPO and the (semi) provincial middle distance races of 2015 can be found here.
Amazing
Father and son Verkerk continue to amaze us with their achievements. It is quite difficult to become a top level player but it is even more difficult to stay at the top. This combination has been doing really well season after season, as you can tell from their impressive number of ace pigeon titles and championship titles. Gerard and Bas, many congratulations on another spectacular season.
