What a weekend for Mark Gilbert, international winner yearlings Bordeaux 2011

This last weekend will be one which Mark Gilbert will surely never forget even if he lives to be 150 years of age. On Friday the 1st of July he clocked a bird which looked likely to win 1st National Flying Club from Tarbes, the clubs ‘Blue Ribband’ race. Only to learn on Saturday morning that a fantastic bird up into Keighley, West Yorkshire had pushed him down into 2nd National position, a placing which everyone but the first two competitors would like to finish.

A few hours later Mark was to time in a yearling blue hen to win 1st International Yearlings from Bordeaux against 11,471 birds from the ‘cream’ of Western Europe’s lofts. His game hen recorded a Velocity of 1091 mpm and sealed an unbelievable weekend for British pigeon racing when Two English lofts won  the International race for both Old Birds and Yearlings. This providing a superb finale to the ‘topsy turvy’ weekend that Mark had enjoyed or should that be endured?

Mark’s latest International winner is a bird bred down from pigeons purchased from the World famed Peter & Hans Brockamp Loft in Germany. The pigeon is actually very closely inbred to the fabulous George Cartius bird ‘George’. This ‘super’ was sire of both ‘Euro Diamond’ and ‘Minstral’. Both of these cocks are in fact Grandfathers to Mark’s hen. This explains to readers both the quality of this little ‘marathon flyer’ and the calibre of pigeons that resides in the Gilbert ‘Southfield Lofts’. Windsor is the famous home of the English Royal Family and is also houses some of the finest racing pigeon ‘Bluebloods’. Make no mistake Mark Gilbert is a very, very ambitious fancier and only the very, very finest pigeons are good enough for Mark Gilbert. This stance has paid rich dividends for their owner with victories in countless National and Classic organisations right up to International levels, surely the very pinnacle of our fine sport.

Well done Mark!!
