Looking for the secret behind the overwhelming achievements of Freddy and Jacques Vandenheede (Zingem, BE)

The pigeon family of Freddy & Jacques Vandenheede is often described as being too strong, overwhelmingly successful and impossible to beat. Many fanciers have wondered about the reason for their success which you will learn more about in this article.

It is fair to say that Freddy & Jacques Vandenheede are the most renowned fanciers in the national longer middle distance and long distance competitions in recent years but we assume that many fanciers are less enthusiastic about this pigeon loft: after all, the Vandenheedes are tough to beat. This is simply an outstanding pigeon loft!

Fanciers who played against the Vandenheede brothers often didn't win anything. The weekly results of Vandenheede are a much discussed topic, especially among fanciers who believe that they owe their success to a magic ingredient. This could not be further from the truth. Every experienced fancier knows that their achievements are the result of hard work. In this article we try to unveil the secret behind this amazingly successful pigeon loft that has been at the very top of our sport for 50 years!

50 years of top-level pigeon racing! From Zieken in 1964 to Annelise and Miracle Ace in 2013

Both Jacques and Freddy got involved in the sport at an early age. Their late father Rene Vandenheede was quite a successful fancier himself thanks to a team of young birds that was tough to beat in the nationals. The stock sire of their father’s loft was Zieken 886/64, from Mencke-Haelterman. This amazing top-class breeder bred an impressive collection of descendants who continue to play a key role in this pigeon breed today, 50 years later. One of his sons, Jonge Zieken 895/79, is the sire of Krijt 810/88, the outstanding breeding dam that bred several world-famous descendants together with her partner Antigoon. Their super breeder Freddy (at first for De Rauw-Sablon, then for Pros Roosen) is probably the most renowned descendant from this pair. Jonge Zieken is also the sire of Kilimanjaro 203/87 (which was usually paired to Expresso) and Aruba 777/88 (usually paired to Iggy). These are three cornerstones and three stock pairs of their father Rene that are also invaluable in the loft of Jacques and Freddy when they started keeping pigeons on their own. Today, their descendants are still an important part of their breed, along with several other aces.

You have to build on your own strength by pairing your strongest cracks with each other. This combination tries to bring a fresh bloodline into their existing breed from time to time as well but prefers not to give any names because they might forget one or two and they do not want to disappoint anyone. In fact, all bloodlines can be found in the pigeons’ pedigrees. They are the foundation of a group of national winners, national ace pigeons and other champions. However, it is fair to say that the lines of Limoges and Frans (De Rauw-Sablon), top class breeding hen Morgane of Luc Van Aelst, Rivendel (Stijn Van Laere) and others have had a significant impact on the achievements of the pigeon family from Zingem in recent seasons. They are at the basis of many recent national victories and ace pigeon titles. Miracle Ace and Annelise were the leading names of the 2013 team. (Click here to learn more about the 2013 season)

Discover the top quality pigeons from Zingem

Freddy and Jacques are the proud owners of a breeding loft unmatched worldwide. This is without doubt one of the if not the best collection of breeding birds in the Western European hemisphere and possibly worldwide. This collection consists mainly of pigeons from their own breeding and racing loft, which achieved excellent results in their own Vandenheede loft, including provincial and national victories as well as provincial and national ace pigeon titles.

Their loft in Zingem is a goldmine, especially because they have never sold any of their successful racing birds, national winners or ace pigeons. Instead, every star in this loft gets a place in the breeding loft and they have seen quite a few champions over the years. This has always been the cornerstone of their successful pigeon family. It goes without saying that Freddy and Jacques are two top class fanciers with an impressive list of achievements. They became even more successful when they decided to join forces and to start playing in a combination. They know how to make the most out of their pigeon collection and to get them in great shape at the right moment, to excel and to win top prizes! They are true masters in their sport.

Of course we should not forget that they could not have achieved this without their team of top quality pigeons! They have been able to maintain a high level of performance for over 50 years, which shows that they are a highly capable team of fanciers! Their collection of top quality pigeons, winners and ace pigeons in their breeding loft in Zingem is simply amazing; you can find an overview of their best breeders below.

Pigeons that make a difference

We suggest you take a few minutes' time to take a closer look at the best breeding pigeons that are currently housed in the Vandenheede breeding loft and we wonder if you can think of any breeding loft of similar quality worldwide. Keep in mind that this loft is mainly based around pigeons that have been successful racing birds in the same loft in Zingem. This is something you do not see very often in other lofts and this explains why the Vandenheede pigeon breed is simply outstanding. This is what makes them stand out from the others.

The one thing that separates them from any other loft is a TOP QUALITY pigeon collection! Their breeding team is of exceptional quality and we could say that this is their biggest secret. This is why they have been able to win top prizes week after week. These pigeons and their direct descendants have been particularly tough to beat in pigeon races all over Belgium, where they have been dominating the competition. Well done!
