After having tested a lot of parentages by DNA, we thought it would be nice to publish some statistics of how many parentages were tested as correct parents or not. We have included 1241 recent parentage tests and 3617 samples for this evaluation, meaning we can make some very nice conclusions in general for racing pigeon breeding.

LDHA is the gene that stands for a lactate dehydrogenase enzyme in racing pigeons. This is an enzyme that is responsible for the recycling of lactate (into pyruvate) in the muscles. Pyruvate can be burned again by muscle fibres.

Back in May of 2012, Peta released a “Sting” video about the racing pigeon sport, and from the very beginning, this video was full of misrepresentations and out right lies. However, in one part of the video, a club officer of one of the IF clubs in the NYC area (see legend below), actually stated on the video that the racing pigeon sport has a doping problem.

Little pigeon statues were found, made 5000 years before our era. The statues have a striking resemblance to modern race pigeons.
