A report on the British Barcelona Club any age race from Fougères on 31st August 2019

Seventy-two members entered three hundred and thirty two pigeons into the British Barcelona Club any age race from Fougères. They were liberated at 08.00CEST into clear skies and no wind. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members' verifications.


Terry & Karen Haley with Harry & Jack

Terry Haley of Watford was first open and first section D with a three year old on 1397ypm. Terry's pigeon was a chequer hen sent sitting twelve day eggs and quit6e heavy into the moult. She is bred from Terry's old family with Alasdair Muir bloodlines on the dam's side.


Trevor & Adrian Wilson with Freya

Trevor and Adrian Wilson of Bishops Stortford clocked two pigeons, both yearlings, to take second and seventh open, first and third section J on 1275ypm and 1249ypm. Trevor and Adrian clocked Guernsey Girl as she won £260 from that race point as a youngster. She is a full sister to Flash. first section, third open Coutances.


Jeff Poole

Jeff Poole of Kings Langley was third open and second section D with a two year old on 1271ypm. The sire of this winner is a Vandenabeele bred for David Reed and is from a son of his national winner, Weltower Neil. The dam was also purchased from David and bred five firsts for him.


Mick & Lorna Dickinson with grandson, Ralph

Mr and Mrs M Dickinson and Sons of Hemel Hempstead were fourth open and third section D with a three year old on 1264ypm. Mick and Lorna clocked a pigeon bred from stock sourced from Evans, Gibson, Dixon and Smith when crossed with their old de Rauw Sablon bloodlines.


Mark & Clare Brown's old hen

M and C Brown of Hungerford clocked a four year old on 1256ypm to take fifth open and first section C. Mark and Clare timed an old hen bred from their Gaby Vandenabeele family when crossed with Steve Bennett of Bristol bloodlines.


Gladwin & Jarvis' old hen

Gladwin and Jarvis of Leigh on Sea were sixth open and second section J with a two year old on 1253ypm. They timed a Frans Zwol hen, a full sister to their Thurso winner, Grandad's Dream.


Tony Mather & Steve Haywood

Mather and Haywood from Matlock timed a two year old on 1229ypm to take eighth open and first section E. This hen has been across the channel numerous times and contains their old Van Geel bloodlines crossed with Van De Wegen including Matt Rakes' Indy and Chris Gordon's Snydale Express.


Brian & Sue Stone & grand-daughter, Evelyn

Brian and Sue Stone of Belper were ninth open and second section E with a yearling on 1207ypm. Brian and Sue timed a Soontjen hen, bred for them by Dennis McKenna,  flown on the natural system and sent sitting fourteen day eggs.


Karen Williams

Completing the top ten and in first section G is Mrs Karen Williams from Isfield with a yearling on 1203ypm. Karen timed a hen bred by Pete Gretton from his Padfield stock. It is only her second year in the racing pigeon game.

Around the sections


Erik Neilson

Wearn Brothers and Neilson of Ramsdean were first section A with a yearling on 1188ypm. Jimmy and Erik clocked a Vandenabeele hen bred by their good friends John and David Hawkins.

M Shipp of Portsmouth was second section A on 1168ypm. Buddy timed a Kees Bosua hen that was used as a widowhood hen earlier in the season.

Mr and Mrs Tony Leggatt of Havant were third section A.


Robbie Hooper

R Hooper of Poole was first section B with a yearling on 1142ypm. The section winner was part of Robbie's Sigogne team of roundabout hens which were then paired up and sent sitting twelve day eggs.


John Halstead

John Halstead of Gillingham was second section B on 1047ypm. John timed a hen bred from the dam of Nyland Vulcan mated to a Bertels Corneel cock.

R and V McConnell from Ferndown were third section B.


Frank Quinn

F J Quinnn of Devizes was second section C on 1181ypm. Frank's winner was bred by David Parker of Clitheroe and was used as a widowhood hen easrlier in the year. .

E Davis of Marlborough was third section C.

P Dewsnap of Stoke on Trent was third section E.


Dave Deveson

D Deveson of Newhaven was second section G with on 1143ypm. Dave clocked Sammu, a hen bred from Razor Girl bloodlines crossed with Cannons.

Mr and Mrs May and Son from West Ashling were third section G.


Paul Davies

P Davies of Jersey was first section H with a two year old on 868ypm. Paul timed Kate, a hen sent sitting and eight day old squeaker.


Willie Healy

Willie Healy of Jersey was second section H on 848ypm. Willie clocked Jackie Sharp, his Fougères winner from last season. She contains Van Loon x Van der Wegen and Scottish bloodlines.
