Sabbatical period in racing career for one of Hollands best performing lofts of last decade Jos Goessen - Gronsveld (NL); superstar with small colony

He won almost everything there was to win … Jos Goessen from Gronsveld. From National NPO victories up to provincial sieges … in the last 20 years Jos saw it all.

However he is up to face the biggest challenge in his pigeon career; the old successful lofts are broken down, all top racers & breeder shall be sold in auction and with only late breds from these wonder birds ambitious Jos is longing for majestic new highlights … what a moment to look back to a lifelong pigeons and the class of bringing out the best in his small – but top class colony.

“2010 was heavy,” Jos says. “Working from 7.30 a.m up to 6.00 p.m. and also a young child that needs attention … for me reason to take a few sabbatical years … In 2013-2014 I want to be back on track and focus on my pigeons again.” Reason also for some rigorous changes. The old lofts of Jos, that have always been situated in the backyard of his mother, shall be broken down in autumn of 2011 … Jos moves to a new house that he has been renovating over the last year to live with his partner Vicky, their son Yves and a new baby that shall be born soon. “To be honest; it will be an entire new start. The only thing I do know is the bloodlines I now have are capable to perform on such a high level, I really must keep some of the bloodlines to be sure I start with good pigeons in a few years … that is why I breed a round of late breds from the best.” The best racers and old breeders shall be sold in auction at PiPa, by the beginning of September 2010. “I’m sure whoever will buy them, will be very successful …”

Top performances
To say that Jos has been successful with these birds, is one of the biggest understatements of the century … In 1990 he started as pigeon fancier and raced in partnership with his dad … since 2007 he races as individual fancier. Over the last 20 years he won over 50x 1. prize in big competition against thousands of birds … 15x NPO top positions … and 2x a NPO victory … in the province of Limburg he is considered as one of the all time biggest champions. Jos always focused on listing top results … winning championships has never been important to him … checking his best races it is fair to say Jos really succeeded in his intentions:

Very soon already Jos found his ambitions were much bigger than those of his father … and so he went to visit the best fanciers in the province to learn more about pigeons … Especially Eddy Bouchoms from Gronsveld taught Jos a lot about how to Judge a pigeon. Eddy also gave Jos a super hen, that became mother to Jos’ famous ‘Pinda hen’, one of the basic pigeons of the colony and herself winner 1. prize St. Diziers with a 10 minutes lead. Also important in the colony were a grandson to the famous ‘Raket’ of Brouwers & Son from Grevenbicht and the lines of Goessen’s famous ‘Roeie’ (Meeuvissen x Nic Janssen), 2x 1. prize winner and 14x top 10 in Fed. of average 1,200 birds … however most important were acquisitions through Belgian champion Gaby Vandenabeele from Dentergem. Jos asked him if he could purchase youngsters and not much later he went to Belgian to bring home a couple eggs from lines of ‘Den Goen’ and a black cockbird from ‘Blacky’ (nest brother ‘Zwarte Baron’, 2. Nat. acebird middle distance Belgium) x ‘Goudklompje’. This ‘Blacky Junior’ became an exceptional producer … As Gaby and Jos had become good friends, later a/o a half brother to ‘Wonderboy’ and three hens from ‘Captain Blue’ (son ‘Bliksem’ x ‘Daughter Wittenbuik’) moved to Gronsveld … Vandenabeele bloodlines are now the majority at Jos Goessen.

Wonder Pair ‘Den Argenton’ x ‘Davina’

Most certain Jos Goessens most important top bird is ‘Den Argenton’ (NL03-1523198), wonder man with 3x 1. prize in Fed. (150 members) … Especially with hot weather and head winds he excelled and missed a 1. NPO victory sitting on the loft for 5 minutes … still his best prizes are extremely impressing:

1. Argenton against 328 birds – 2. NPO against 2,200 birds
1. Etampes against 808 birds – 7. NPO against 5,763 birds
1. Gien against 865 birds – 10. NPO against 3,600 birds
7. Argenton against 367 birds – 47. NPO against 2,743 birds

He is bred from ‘Oude 48’ (54 prize cards) x ‘Pinda hen’ for many years the nr. 1 breeding hen of Jos.

In 2007 ‘Den Argenton’ moved to the breeding loft and from the first moment his partner became ‘Davina’ (NL06-1412589), purchased as egg at Gaby Vandenabeele … her nest brother is ‘Mister Argenton’, winner of 1. NPO Argenton against 3,986 birds and 12. NPO Cahors against 3,739 birds and a true champion racer!!! Both are bred from ‘David’ (grandson ‘Turbo’),  1. prov. Argenton against 2,106 birds & 4. prov. Angouleme 2,589 birds (also 16. prov. – 26. prov. – 49. prov. – 69. Nat. Brive 7,446 birds) … ‘David’ was than paired to ‘Zwarte 91’, daughter to ‘Amocachi’ (4.
