Simon van Hoeve (Terneuzen, NL): great achievements on a small accommodation

Simon van Hoeve

The 53 year-old Simon van Hoeve from Terneuzen in Zeeland has a busy job as logistics manager of a chemical plant. After work he finds his pigeon help him relax. As a child he grew up with pigeon sport through his father and is still passionate about this beautiful hobby today. Simon raced together with his father for a long time. After he passed away, he raced together with his brother under the name Gebr. van Hoeve. From 2012 onwards he races alone, although he can always rely on his daughter Evi in helping out with his pigeons. On his small accommodation of 3.5 meters long in total, he achieves phenomenal results. Even on a national level he is amongst the best. In 2017, he made the national podium (3rd) of the competition 'Eendaagse Fondspiegel' (Young birds Cat. 1).  In 2022, he did even better, taking the title of 2nd National Long Distance Champion 'Eendaagse Fondspiegel' Cat. 1. Strong long distance season in 2022

In 2022, Simon performed especially well on NPO long distance races. On Chateauroux, Souzay Champigny and Argenton, Simon even managed a 100% prize percentage on three consecutive long distance races. On Issoudun I, five of his six basketed pigeons flew prizes and on Issoudun II, 6 from 9. In total, 30 pigeons were basketed on the NPO races, which won 26 prizes (86%). In Samenspel Midden (Combine 'Midden'), he started with a great 3rd place on Issoudun I (13th NPO against 5,358 p.), on Chateauroux he won 4th place and on Issoudun II he took the victory in the combine. In the province there were magnificent Top 10 spots on the middle distance races from Fontenay (7th and 9th against 4,410 p.) and Melun with the young birds (5th against 4,238 p.).  

Stock is built up with pigeons from Gebr. Scheele 

Simon never had to travel far to find good pigeons. He found them at his neighbor and good friend Jaap Scheele (Gebr. Scheele). In nearly all of his top pigeons, the Scheele bloodlines are dominant. Names such as Sonny and Cher, Jeroen Jr., Hanny and Darco can be found in many of the pedigrees of Simon his performance pigeons. We would like to introduce some of these stars further, starting with Macho. 

Macho was 2nd Provincial Ace Pigeon Allround Afd. Zeeland '96  in 2017 and 2018 

NL16-3615271 Macho is the absolute superstar on the lofts of Simon van Hoeve. In 2017 and 2018 this checkered cock dominated in Afdeling Zeeland '96. Macho is a grandson of the super pair of Gebr. Scheele which is formed by NL12-3254959 Sonny x NL13-1655026 Cher. Daughters of this pair, NL15-1770490 Juli (mother Macho) and NL16-1588015 Julia, play an important role in the stock build-up of Simon his colony. The other grandmother of Macho is NL12-1005204 Esmee van Tj. & J. Elzinga (1st National Ace Pigeon WHZB-TBOT 2014). NL15-1770555 Simo is father of a/o Jutta and Mathieu

The next cock we will introduce, having bred multiple top pigeons, is NL15-1770555 Simo. This blue cock comes directly from Gebr. Scheele. Simo is a son of the top pair NL11-1742421 Jeroen Jr x NL13-1308215 Hanny. Simo is thereby a brother of a/o Timo (6th Nat. Ace Pigeon Young birds WHZB 2014 and 16th Nat. Ace Pigeon Allround WHZB 2017) and Tygo (father Rico, 1st National Ace Pigeon Old birds 'De Allerbeste' 2019). Simo is father of a/o; 

NL17-3711087 Pearl is mother of a/o Jutta en Mathieu 

The hen NL17-3711087 Pearl is (paired to Simo) mother of a/o Jutta and Mathieu. Pearl, just like the previously mentioned Macho, a grandchild of the wonder pair of Jaap Scheele, Sonny x Cher. Moreover, Pearl is a granddaughter of the phenomenon  NL08-3856795 Darco. Pearl herself achieved a/o the following top results;

Mathieu not only won two NPO Top 10 results but is also an exceptional breeder. He proved this as father of a/o the following top pigeons; 

NL19-3908253 Duncan wins a/o 1st Fontenay against 1,024 p. 

On the middle distance race from Fontenay (365 km), Simon won the race in combine 'Midden' of Afdeling Zeeland '96 against 1,024 p. with NL19-3908253 Duncan. In the province this was good for a beautiful 7th place against 4,410 pigeons. Duncan is a half-brother of Macho (same father) and also a half-brother of Pearl (same mother). In the pedigree we once again find Esmee and the pair Sonny x Cher. Furthermore, Duncan is a full brother of a/o the 18-988 (winner of 3rd NPO Melun in 2019), 19-080 (winner of 1st Prov. Melun against 10,418 p. and 1st Prov. Melun against 9,624 p.) and 18-22 (winner of 1st Prov. Peronne against 7,823 p.). 

NL19-3908260 Ceylin wins a/o 1st Provincial Pont St. Max against 4,373 p. 

One of the best long distance racers in the 2022 season was NL19-3908260 Ceylin. She had previously won 1st Provincial Pont St. Maxence against 4,373 pigeons. Ceylin is a daughter of Macho x NL12-1689707 Skyfall. Ceylin, as daughter of Skyfall, is granddaughter to Dylan x Akira. Akira won a/o 1st NPO on a tough Orleans against 6,842 p. for Gebr. Scheele. NL20-2023476 Zoey is the revelation of the 2022 long distance season

Lastly, we will introduce NL20-2023476 Zoey. This 2 year-old hen played an important rol in Simon's recent successes. In 2021, Zoey became 4th Provincial Ace Pigeon in Afdeling Zeeland '96 as a yearling. In 2022, she once again performed extremely well, winning the title 6th Provincial Ace Pigeon of Afdeling Zeeland '96. Her best results include a/o; 

Simon and Jaap join forces

How Simon manages to perform so well with a small accommodation is a show of class. In 2022, a maximum of 17 old birds and 12 young birds were basketed at once and yet he belongs to the best in various national championships. Due to the fact that his daughter Evi is off to study, Simon will have to miss a trusty helper in taking care of his pigeons from 2023 onwards. He has therefore decided to stop with pigeon racing under his own name. However, he is not saying pigeon sport farewell. Together with his friend and neighbor Jaap Scheele they have decided to join forces and aim to lift the results of Jaap Scheele to an even higher level. The only pigeon which will stay on Simon's lofts is Evi. Simon's daughter Evi got this hen as a present from Jaap Scheele and is therefore cherished.
