André Roodhooft (Pulderbos, BE): thoroughbred racing birds

If there is one thing we associate André Roodhooft with, it would be his tremendous achievements. These have been a constant throughout his remarkable pigeon racing career.

The 'Emperor of (Union) Antwerp' would be an appropriate way to describe André Roodhooft, who dominated the (longer) middle distance competition in Antwerp for many years. And Tom BE04-6250335 is a recurring theme in the pedigrees of many of his race winners.

Tom, BE04-6250335

The title of King of Union Antwerp has been the number one objective for many renowned Antwerp fanciers. And just a handful of players have managed to claim this title more than once. But André Roodhooft seems to be in a league of his own: he was awarded the title of King of the Antwerp Union an impressive 18 times! In other words, he left the competition behind across 18 different seasons, which is incredibly impressive!

André was King of the Antwerp Union, the 'university of pigeon racing' across the following 18 seasons:

  • 1983-1988-1992-2000-2002-2005-2006-2007-2008-2009-2010-2011-2012-2013-2014-2015-2019-2020

With so many titles to his, name, he could well be regarded the Emperor of Union Antwerp as well. In fact, he won this title on 9 occasions (!):

  • 2007-2008-2009-2010-2011-2012-2013-2014-2015

This means André has been King of the Antwerp Union uninterruptedly from 2005 to 2015. And that happens to be around the time when Tom, which was born in 2004, started to surface. As a one year old, Tom became 2nd Ace Pigeon Union Antwerp. One year later, in 2006, he had no one in front of him anymore, hence claiming a title of 1st Ace Pigeon Union Antwerp old birds. At that point in time, Tom did not have to prove himself anymore as a racing bird. But now André wanted him to shine in the breeding loft as well, and he did: Tom quickly became a very successful breeder, a breeder that one could build an entire pigeon family around. In fact, André claimed many great results in the years to come, with Tom's youngsters as well as his (great-)grandchildren.

The following top results were won with direct descendants of Tom:

1. Olympiad Pigeon Nitra 2014 (‘Belgium’s Best’ – daughter ‘Tom’) 1. long distance pigeon 4-5-6-7 Nat. races PIPA Ranking (‘Belgium’s Best’ – p. ‘Tom’) 1. Nat. Brother Tom 691

Tom played a very important role in the further development of the André Roodhooft pigeon breed, and so did many of Tom's close relatives. Several top quality birds came to the fore in just a few years' time. For instance, Brother Tom 691 BE05-6381691 has really left his mark on the pigeon lofts in Pulderbos.

His brothers and sisters are in the picture as well

Besides Brother Tom 691, there are several other brothers and sisters of Tom that have enabled André to achieve some spectacular results in recent years. He has clearly been using the bloodlines of these (half) brothers and sisters to their full potential. And the grandfather of Tom also happens to be the grandfather of Sandra (BE13-6165019), 1st Nat. Ace Pigeon longer middle distance KBDB in 2015, which goes to show that these bloodlines have produced several generations of exceptionally gifted pigeons.

These different bloodlines, which are all related, form the very foundation of the andré Roodhooft pigeon family, which has been very successful season after season. We take you through some of their most recent and most notable victories and ace pigeon titles:

André Roodhooft has surprised us season after season with a fantastic family of race winners built around Tom. Many fancier would dream of the palmares of André, and we reckon most of his colleagues will never even get close to what he has managed to accomplish with his unique group of racing and breeding birds. We have great respect for André and the Roodhooft pigeon family. Hats off!
