A report on the British International Championship Club old bird race from Falaise on 31st August 2020

154 members sent 1,074 old birds to Falaise with the British International Championship Club. After a two day holdover they were liberated at 09.00CEST. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members' verifications.
Tony Buckfield

First open and first east section was a yearling on 1117mpm over 192 miles for T Buckfield of Hockley. Tony's winner contains Gaston van der Wouer bloodlines and was raced on the widowhood system. Tony had a second pigeon just one second later and this was a Soontjen cock.

J Cowlin of Hullbridge was second open and second east section with a three year old on 1113mpm over 193 miles. John timed a hen containing Formula One Lofts' Frans Zwols bloodlines. The sire is a son of Tip Top Junior and Dream Maker when paired to the ace breeding hen, Dream Rekkem, a direct daughter of King of Rekkem and Dream Girl 200. 

Mr/s Beasley & Luke Oglesby

Mr and Mrs D Beasley and Luke Oglesby of Reading clocked a yearling on 1109mm over 180 miles to take third open and first centre section. The partners clocked Barney, a Janssen De Klak Van Loon cock that had being coming well earlier in the season. 

Micky Watts of Southminster was fourth open and third east section with a three year old on 1103mpm over a distance of 197 miles. 

Steve Buckle & grandson Baye

S Buckle of Northwood timed a two year old on 1100mpm over 188 miles to take fifth open and second centre section. Steve only keeps a small team of pigeons and they are mainly Janssen De Klaks. 

Danny Lanahan

Danny Lanahan of Poole was sixth open and first west section with a two year old on 1097mpm over 153 miles. Danny timed a chequer hen that was a gift pigeon from Kelvin Legg and was also first section from Coutances two weeks previously. It was sent sitting one day old squeakers. 

Gurguri and Darda of Denham timed a yearling on 1097mpm over 185 miles to take seventh open and third centre section. 

P and J Harrison of Hounslow were eighth open and fourth centre section with a yearling on 1068mpm over a distance of 179 miles. 

Fagg and Nicholas of Hartlip timed a two year old on 1061.054mpm over 173 miles to take ninth open and fourth east section. 

Harry Jackson

Completing the top ten and in first north-centre section is Harry Jackson of Selby with a two year old on 1061.051mpm over 336 miles. Harry timed a chequer hen bred from a Frans Zwols cock bought from the Portugal one loft race in 2017 and a hen bred by Brewerton and Son of Castleford. It was raced up to 500 miles as a yearling and was then lost and reported by a non-fancier, from whom Harry collected her. It was sent to Falaise sitting ten day eggs. 

Around the sections

John Halstead

John Halstead of Kington Magna timed a yearling on 1024mpm over 174 miles to take second west section. John timed a chequer hen sent sitting a six day old baby. It was bred from a Jellema cock purchased from Mark Gilbert and a daughter of Nyland Reco, ninth open Barcelona 2017. 

Prilly & Frankie Hodges

Mr and Mrs Hodges of Templecombe were third west section with a two year old on 965mpm over 177 miles. The Hodges clocked a pigeon bred from stock on loan from John Gerard. It was raced on the chaos system earlier in the season but then paired up and sent sitting chipping eggs. 

Kev Kingston & grandson Louie

K Kingston and Family were second north-centre section with a yearling on 1031mpm over 338 miles. Kev's blue hen had won three firsts and two seconds earlier in the season and was sent to Falaise sitting three day old squeakers. 

P S Wraight of Bluntisham timed a two year old on 987mpm over 239 miles to take third north-centre section. 

Steve Kaschner & neighbour Chris

S Kaschner of Diss was first north-east section with a yearling hen on 999mpm over 249 miles. This hen contains Colin Smith bloodlines when crossed with one of his own Westcote birds. 

Len Rix

L Rix and Son of Mildenhall were second north-east section with a yearling on 976mpm over 241 miles. The second section winner was bred down from birds obtained from the late Ryan Farringdon of Cambridge. 

Len Swallow of Diss timed a three year old on 967mpm over 246 miles to take third north-east section. Len's red cock came from his own family of birds that he has had for over seventy years. 

 

John Rodway

John Rodway of Rushwick clocked a yearling on 873mpm over 344 miles to take first north-west section. John timed a blue bar cock that was lost off the loft in 2019 and onyl returned in March of this year. It was on its first channel race. 

M T Howard of Upton Upon Severn was second north-west section with a two year old on 736mpm over a distance of 237 miles. Mick clocked three pigeons in close succession. All were hens and contain Padfield bloodlines with the first being a grand-daughter of Padfield Invincible. Second to time was bred down from Padfield's St Vincent bloodlines.
