A report on the Central Southern Classic young bird race from Coutances on 22nd August 2020

84 members sent 867 pigeons to the Central Southern Classic Flying club young bird race from Coutances. They were liberated at 09.00CEST. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members' verifications.
Bill Edwards & Pat Harris

First open and first SE section was won by Edwards and Harris of Gosport with a youngster on 1666ypm. The winner was a blue chequer darkness cock on its first race of the season. He was bred from their Paul Stobbs Soontjens family that were obtained by their good friend Tommy Slowther of Consett. The sire is one of their best racing cocks having won over £100 in national and classic racing.

Martin & Kenny Attrill

Second open and second SE section was a youngster 1644ypm for J Attrill and Sons of Southampton. The Attrill's pigeon was bred from a hen they bought from Dave Hawthorne of Tadley when paired to a Verhegan cock. It was sent paired to an old hen sitting fifteen day eggs.

Jack & Martin Norman

Mannor Lofts of Southampton were third open and third SE section on 1643ypm. Martin, Clare and Jack Norman timed a youngster that was sitting a single egg with another of their young hens. The sire is a grandson of John Crehan's Mystique when paired to a daughter of John's Flash Harry. The dam is from Diamond Princess, a son of Hugo Battenburg's Prince Charming.

Betty

Michael Fuller of Portsmouth timed a hen to take fourth open and fourth SE section on 1638ypm. Michael timed Betty, a home bred pigeon whose sire was 56th open Pau this season.

Ron Jones, Jamie Wells & Jamie-Joe

Bartlett, Jones and Wells of Southampton were fifth open and fifth SE section with a youngster on 1634ypm. The partners timed a blue hen, flying to the perch and with four flights left to moult.

Darren Ede's youngster

Darren Ede of Southampton was sixth open and sixth SE section with a youngster on 1623ypm. Darren's timer was a Willy Daniels cock that he bought at Blackpool. The dam is a daughter of Valitas.

Ken Cleife

K and L Cleife of Portsmouth were seventh open and seventh SE section on 1618ypm. Kenny and Lee timed a youngster whose great-grandsire was a gift pigeon from Garry Moody. The sire was a latebred when paired to the dam which was a Linda Harris Jan Aarden.

Dave Tolfrey

Mrs and Mrs Tolfrey of Portsmouth were eighth open and eighth SE section on a velcity of 1604ypm. The sire and dam of the Tolfrey's pigeon were gift birds from their good friend Chris Hatton.

J and P Parker of Beenham were ninth open and first NE section on 1597ypm.

Completing the top ten and in ninth SE section is E Booth of Gosport with a young bird on 1586ypm. Elvin timed a blue chequer cock containing Roland Janssen, Vandenabeele and Staff Van Reet bloodlines. The sire was 77th open Messac earlier in the season.

Around the sections

Mark Gower's hen

Mark and Julie Gower of Fordingbridge timed two youngsters to take first and second SW section on 1189ypm and 1135ypm respectively. The Gowers first timer was a darkness youngster bred from a grandson of New Harry when paired to Mystique from John Crehan. On the dam's side is a daughter of their best ever racing hen. Their second pigeon was bred from a grandson of New Bandiet x National Carrie from Mark Evans, when paired to a half sister of New Bandiet's dam.

David & John Staddon

David and John Staddon of Shepton Mallett were third SW section on 1115ypm. The Staddons timed a red cock bred from a new stock pair. The sire is a half-brother to Portrait Boy (68th international Agen 2019) and the dam, Red Evie, is bred from their great racers, Red Treble and Evie, the NFC ace pigeon in 2018.

Graham Clift

Graham Clift of Tirley was first NW section on 1350ypm. Graham's pigeon was bred from stock from Mark Gilbert of Windsor. The sire is a brother to Southfield Junior, whilst the dam is bred down from Perpignan 06.

Tomasz Fedyk

Tomasz Fedyk of Melksham timed a youngster on 1277ypm to take second NW section. Tomasz's winner was bred by Steve Slade and is a grandson of Steve's hen Julie, a classic champion in 2017.

Eamonn Kenny

Mr and Mrs Kenny and Family of Wantage were second NE section on 1515ypm. Paul and Esther timed a red hen that was bought from Louis Mattheus and on its first race of the season.
