With the season taking off later than usual (due to the coronavirus), Wendela decided to darken her pigeons for the first time, right until they did their first training flights. Her pigeons have been returning home a lot quicker in recent weeks, and her racing hens were showing to be in particularly good form. She had the fastest bird in the rayon twice: in Telgte (160km) of 2,744 pigeons and in Sittard (263km) of 2,610 pigeons. And she recorded some promising prize percentages as well, with 75% (39/52) and 67% (35/52) respectively. But her most notable performance came in Chimay last weekend:
Chimay, 28th of June
The middle distance race from Chimay took off on 28th of June in Province 10, involving 13,945 pigeons. Wendela had basketed 40 birds for this event, and they did quite well:
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd spot were all won by hens; these three hens were clocked within three seconds of each other, after covering 402km. The first place goes to NL19-4730023.
This NL19-023 is related to some renowned forefathers, including Mother Olympic Bolt (Stefaan Lambrechts, BE), De Dikke (van Toor Brothers, NL) and Venus & Alaska (Heremans-Ceusters, BE).

This talented bird was pigeon champion as a young bird in CC DOP. Her dam, the 859, was an excellent racing bird as well, she finished the 2013 season as Best middle distance pigeon in Province 10.

A marvelous start to potentially another great season
Year after year Wendela is able to deliver a series of noteworthy results. And she claimed her first national championship titles already in the junior ranks. She is now a household name at senior level as well, as you can tell from her achievements in the national championships and her victories in major races in recent years.
