A report on the British Barcelona Club race from Cholet on 9th June 2019

Two hundred and twenty-eight members sent one thousand, seven hundred pigeons to the British Barcelona Club race from Cholet. After a one day holdover due to bad weather they were liberated at 07.15 CEST into light cloud with no wind. The following is a report on the provisional result based on members' verifications.


George Owers

First open and first section B went to G Owers of Bere Regis with a yearling on 1256ypm. George timed Purbeck Dream, a chequer cock. George flies twelve widowhood cocks and breeds just twenty-four youngsters from the race team as no stock birds are kept. Purbeck Dream is bred from pigeons from Clive Harrison and Wyatt and Gray.


G & C Machin's pigeon

G and C Machin of Telford were second open and first section E with a three year old on 1247ypm. Glyn and Christine clocked a widowhood cock containing Luc Van Coppenolle x Jos Joosen bloodlines when crossed with their own family of pigeons.


Mal Hope with grandsons James and Joey

Third open and second section E was a two year old on 1240ypm for Mal Hope of Telford. Mal timed The Maine Man, a son of Piaf, his Bordeaux and Tarbes hen. The sire has Alwyn Hill x Chris Gordon bloodlines. Mal timed a second pigeon to also take sixth open and fourth section.


Keith Rhodes' pigeon

Keith Rhodes of Telford was fourth open and third section E with a three year old on 1233.7ypm. Keith's pigeon was a three year old widowhood cock, the parents of which were bought from Marshall, Marshall, Marshall and Smith from their Up North Combine winner Mucking Magic and Big Smithy.


Daniel Pazdyk & son Michael

First section H and fifth open went to Daniel Pazdky of Jersey with a three year old on 133.3ypm. Daniel timed a Koopman x Jan Aarden hen that has raced well in the club earlier in the season.


Martin Williams

Martin Williams of Hereford was seventh open and first section C with a eight year old on 1208ypm. Martin timed a hen raced on his roundabout system and that last season was sixth section NFC Sigogne. The breeding is Jacob Poortvliet's Yildrim when paired to Magic Wonder and then crossed with Martin's old family.


Dave Fox

Eighth open and second section C was a two year old on 1207ypm for Dave Fox of Stroud. Dave clocked a grizzle Jos Thoné cock bred from birds he purchased from the late Kevin Woolston of Norfolk.

G A Baker of Shifnal was ninth open and fourth section E with a yearling on 1206ypm. Graham timed a pigeon bred from the last daughter of his Meritman when paired to a pigeon on loan from Geoff and Catherine Cooper.


John Clapcott

Completing the top ten and in second section B was won by J Clapcott of Poole with a two year old on 1204ypm. John timed a Janssen based hen raced on the widowhood system.

Bill Norman

Bill Norman of Southampton were first section A with a yearling on 1160ypm. Bill timed a pencil blue cock named Willygrit and which was bred by Trevor Green from Ashurst.


Keith Davison

Keith Davison of Southampton was second section A. Keith clocked a Braspenning x Bricoux hen, the Brasspenning bloodlines came from Louella Pigeon World, whilst the Bricoux came from Tony Collinwood of Lymstone in Devon. It was sent to Cholet sitting eggs.


Roger Lowe

Roger Lowe of Reading was first section D with a yearling on 1187ypm. Roger's section winner was bred from a double grandson of Jan Hooymans' Harry. The dam is My New Diamond, a double grand-daughter of My Little Diamond.

P J Wells of Dunstable was second section D. Pete's pigeon was bred by Terry Robinson and contains Paul Partridge x Terry's Motivator bloodlines.


Mr & Mrs Smith

Mr and Mrs Smith and Grandson of Guildford were first section G with a two year old on 1021ypm. The partner's clocked a dark chequer cock with the breeding on the sire's side coming from Steve Howard's stock. The dam contained Jan Aarden bloodlines.


Tony Welch

Mr and Mrs Tony Welch were second section G. Tony and Carol clocked a Janssen cock bred out of their seventh open Barcelona hen.


Nigel Legg

R Legg and Sons of Guernsey were second section H. Nigel's timer was a Patrick van den Abbeele cock containing Roger Phillips' bloodlines.


Gosling & Jarvis

Gosling and Jarvis of Mountnessing were first section J with a yearling on 1043ypm. The partners clocked a grizzle cock flown on the widowhood system. The sire was bred by Dave Hawthorne from two London North Road Combine hall of fame winners, whilst the dam came from the late Marley Westrop.


Mark Bulled

Mark Bulled of Harlow was second section J. Mark timed a widowhood hen, the sire of which was a Red Bull and the dam a Staf Van Reet from Mark Sands of Kent.
