Give and take in 2017
A true champion is someone who can win top prizes every single season. The 2017 season has now come to an end, and Bart Geerinckx is clearly one of those champions, having won the following top prizes at provincial level and more:
1st Provincial Libourne 351 p. (5th National 3,929 p.) 2nd Interprov. Vierzon 4,854 p. 2nd Provincial Bourges 3,138 p. (31st National 23,155 p.) 3rd Interprov. Vierzon 8,177 p. 3rd Provincial Libourne 351 p. (15th National 3,929 p.) 4th Provincial Jarnac 423 p. (59th National 5,045 p.) 4th Provincial Libourne 351 p. (18th National 3,929 p.) 5th Interprov. Vierzon 8,177 p. 5th National Ace Pigeon KBDB Long Distance Olds 8th National Ace Pigeon KBDB Longer Middle Distance Olds
These results are in line with his best overall results of 2017. This is the type of palmares that can only be achieved with racing birds that tick all the boxes in terms of quality. And it goes without saying that there are plenty of high quality pigeons in the breeding loft in Wommelgem, as you can tell from the achievements of the Geerinckx descendants in other lofts this season:
1st Nationaal Bourges 38,455 p. (Jelle Roziers) (fastest of 59,243 young birds) 1st Interprov. Vierzon 8,177 p. (Guy Vanderauwera) 1st Interprov. Limoges 2,362 p. (Racing Team ADK) (3rd National 9,073 p.) 1st Provinciaal Bourges 2,318 p. (Van Hoof-Vanwijngaerden) 1st Provincial Brive 767 p. (Jorgi Ferrari) (1st Nat. Zone 2,439 p.) 2nd Interprov. Vierzon 8,177 p. (Guy Vanderauwera) 2nd National Ace Pigeon KBDB Longer Middle Distance Yearlings (Ivan & Willy Baetens) 5th National Ace Pigeon KBDB Longer Middle Distance Yearlings (Ivan & Willy Baetens)
In conclusion: two national ace pigeons, one national victory and four (inter)provincial victories in other lofts with Geerinckx bloodlines.
Two national ace pigeons
The eye-catchers of this season are Queen James, 5th National Ace Pigeon KBDB Long Distance Olds, and Blue Favourite, 8th National Ace Pigeon KBDB Longer Middle Distance Olds. And there was another talented pigeon that has come to the fore in 2017: Crazy Girl.
Queen James: 5th Nat. Ace Pigeon KBDB Long Distance Olds
The strongest pigeon of the pack this season was no doubt the white coloured hen BE15-6020007 Queen James. The last three digits in her ring number give us a hint of who she is named after: James Bond, also known as 007. She had a coefficient of 1.1956, resulting in the title of 5th National Ace Pigeon KBDB Long Distance Olds:
5th Nat. Libourne 3,927 p. 7th Nat. Zone Jarnac 1,318 p. 40th Nat. Tulle 7,447 p.
With a 216th Nat. Zone Limoges I of 4,528 p. and a 63rd Prov. Brive of 767 p. on her palmares she also became 2nd Best old bird across all the Belgian one day long distance races (5 prizes) in the PIPA rankings. She really managed to live up the expectations after her previous top results. Click here for Queen James's full palmares.
Queen James comes from two national winners from Argenton: Luc (1st Nat. Argenton 12,446 p.) x Just Wait (1st Nat. Argenton 16,363 p., 2nd Montluçon 2,545 p.). Luc comes from the renowned breeding pair Blauwe Ijzeren x Eenwitpen Willyke, who bred two first prize winners in major races together: Iron Lady and Iron Star. Just Wait is a youngster of Rapido I x Xena (2nd Nat. Argenton 5,034 p. and 3rd 35,344 p.). Click here for the full pedigree of Queen James.
Blue Favourite: 8th Nat. Ace Pigeon KBDB Longer Middle Distance Olds
The runner-up in Wommelgem is the blue coloured BE15-6020077 Blue Favourite. She became 8th National Ace Pigeon KBDB Longer Middle distance Olds with a 3.303 coefficient:
23rd Nat. Argenton I 13,730 p. 7th Nat. Zone Châteauroux II 2,912 p. 79th Nat. Zone Châteauroux I 5,801 p. 128th Nat. Bourges II 8,348 p.
These are great results in the wake of an already great year 2016. Click here for the full list of achievements in Blue Favourite's racing career.
The sire of Blue Favourite is Mannequin, an excellent racing bird with 6 national top 58 prizes on his palmares. The dam is My Favourite, another great racing bird and winner of an 11th Nat. Bourges 20,544 p., a 14th Nat. Argenton 19,782 p., a 20th Nat. Argenton 12,390 p., etc. Her descendant Miss Favourite proved equally talented: she won a 2nd Noyon 410 p., a 6th Prov. Châteauroux 2,664 p., a 15th Nat. Zone Tours 574 p., etc. My Favourite comes from Gladiator, a highly renowned racing and breeding bird, paired to Witpen Bourgske. A tough choice to make
Every great result leaves a fancier with a tough choice: continue to race the pigeon with the risk of losing him or her, or moving the pigeon to the breeding loft, thus weakening your racing team? After his excellent 2017 racing season Bart has had two choices to make, although he has already made up his mind for one of his pigeons: "Queen James no doubt goes to the breeding loft, but I'm still on the fence about Flue Favourite. I might continue to race her still." This is a tough choice indeed, or rather a luxury problem.
