Wichard de Vries (Dokkum, NL) aims to reach ambitious goal with the help of top breeder Freddy's Gold

Wichard de Vries is a young and particularly ambitious fancier. His goal? He wants to be a top level player in just five seasons. He counts on his top breeder Freddy's Gold to achieve that goal.

Wichard de Vries, young and full of ambition

Another fresh start for Wichard de Vries

Even though he is only 30 years old, Wichard de Vries has a fairly long history in pigeon racing. At the age of 14 he made his entrance in the sport racing independently in the junior series. He did this until the age of 17, and he had some remarkable results: Wichard was junior champion in Province Friesland '96, and he had the Province's best middle distance pigeon in his collection as well. He made a successful comeback in 2015, along with fellow fancier Sjoerd Lei from Hantum. The two were remarkably successful with the young birds in the De Waadkant District, and this resulted in a number of championship titles: 1st pigeon champion and ace pigeon young birds, and 1st loft nominated and not nominated. The NPO race from Quiévrain was undoubtedly the highlight of the season, with the team claiming a first prize NPO of 15,000 pigeons. They had in fact three pigeons in the top 12 in the entire province of Friesland, winning a 9th and 12th NPO as well. But the combination lasted just one season: Sjoerd had decided to move and he quit pigeon racing altogether. Wichard did not want to let things slide and he started over in 2016 in Dokkum. Racing from a brand new loft with large aviaries, Wichard is determined to become one of the leading fanciers in the Friesland Province over the course of just five seasons.

BE12-4315203 Freddy's Gold, one of Wichard de Vries's top breeders

Son New Freddy, the star of the breeding loft

It takes high quality pigeons to make it to the top. Wichard started looking for highly renowned bloodlines in order to reach his goals. He started in 2016 with a group of young birds of Pieter Veenstra (Drachtstercompagnie, NL) and Team BDS-Blancke, along with the pigeons that he bred himself. In the winter of 2015 he obtained a son of BE09-5052387 New Freddy in a Dirk Deroose auction on PIPA. New Freddy, raced by Pierre Mathijs and owned by the PIPA Elite Center, became 1st National Ace Pigeon Longer Middle distance KBDB in 2010. The son of New Freddy that Wichard obtained had ring number BE12-4315203, and he named him Freddy's Gold, for obvious reasons. His dam, BE10-6031774 Kwimby, is a sister of Palme D'Or of Casaert-Sénéchal, and she is in turn the dam of Amalia, 1st National Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB 2011, and Nikolaas, 1st National Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB 2013. Besides, Kwimby is a granddaughter of BE98-6335690, the renowned Kaasboer of Gaston van de Wouwer. You can browse through the pedigree of Freddy's Gold here.

Miss Uno, 1st NPO Quiévrain of 15,158 pigeons

NL15-1211111 Miss Uno, 1st NPO Quiévrain of 15,158 p.

Like we said earlier, Wichard was able to claim a prestigious victory in the NPO race from Quiévrain during his brief but very successful partnership with Sjoerd Lei. Their winning hen, NL15-1211111 Miss Uno, moved to Richard's new lofts in Dokkum after the partnership ended. This hen would be the first breeding partner for Freddy's Gold in 2016, and the pairing proved an instant success.

NL16-4283592 New Gold (Freddy’s Gold x Miss Uno)

NL16-4283592 New Gold, a top class bird from Freddy's Gold x Miss Uno

Blue coloured racing cock NL16-4283592 New Gold saw the light of day in the very first season in which Freddy's Gold had to prove his potential in the breeding loft. The dam of New Gold is Miss Uno. New Gold managed to finish in the top 10 in five different races in no more than six weeks. This is his palmares:

Chimay 1 – 260 p. (18 – 1103 p.)
Quiévrain 2 – 430 p. ( 6 – 2083 p.)
Vuren 7 – 180 p.
Weert 8 – 142 p.
Quiévrain 9 – 417 p.

Junior comes to the fore in Gennep

NL17-4292646 Junior, 1st Gennep 587 p./17th of 24170 p.

Freddy's Gold is being paired to several renowned hens. In 2017 Blue Gigi (NL16-1259325) was honoured to breed a new generation of Freddy's Gold descendants. Blue Gigi is a daughter of NL09-1832062 Gigi, a renowned racing hen of Alwin Petrie (Brummen, NL). Gigi claimed victory in the NPO races from Peronne (9,255 p.) and Breuil (5,858 p.), she won a title of 5th National Ace Pigeon Sprint/Middle Distance 2010 (TBOTB) and she was 3rd National Ace Pigeon Europe Cup in Dortmund in 2012. This breeding pair bred a particularly talented youngster: NL17-4292646 Junior, which is a half brother of New Gold, claimed a 1st Gennep of 587 pigeons, while finishing in 17th place in the entire Friesland '96 province of 24,170 pigeons. This is quite a feat. Click here for Junior's pedigree.

Veenstra birds successful as well

NL16-1817742 Taranis, 1st Ace Pigeon One Day Long Distance District 't Noorden

The living proof of the successful introduction of Pieter Veenstra birds into this pigeon family is racing cock NL16-1817742 Taranis. This cock became 1st Ace Pigeon One Day Long Distance in District 't Noorden in 2017. He is a grandson of BE13-6309557 Nationaal Boy (B&L Geerinckx). The dam of Taranis is NL15-4273222, a daughter of NL09-1647005 Chanel No. 5, 1st International Ace Pigeon W.E.N.C. Dortmund 2010. This top class hen also won a 1st Isnes 6,544 p. and a 1st Meer 2,469 p. Chanel No. 5 was paired to a son of none other than BE08-4351119 Ike (Chris Hebberecht), 1st National Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB 2010. Here is a look at Taranis's best results:

Pontoise 545 km 3 – 983 p. (20 NPO – 9500 p.)
Mantes-la-Jolie 568 km 4 – 541 p.

Based on his first results so far, we are confident to say that Wichard de Vries has a promising pigeon racing career ahead. We reckon his willingness to invest in top class bloodlines will prove invaluable in his efforts to make it to the top; you can tell from the descendants of Freddy's Gold.
