Rudi De Saer (Ruiselede, BE) is developing a pigeon family around national stars and national winners

The pigeons of Rudi De Saer have yet again shown what they are capable of, winning 15 first prizes and several national championship titles in 2017, including a 10th Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB and a 16th Nat. Champion olds KBDB. Besides, his team has won several top references and has claimed several victories in other lofts as well.

A solid reputation

Rudi De Saer has really made a name for himself over the years, achieving fantastic results with an excellent group of pigeons. His success story is rooted on the pigeon family from Dentergem: in the early 1990s Rudi cleverly decided to obtain pigeons from almost every champion in Gaby Vandenabeele's collection. It was an intstant success, as these pigeons allowed him to raise the bar, and to develop into an international champion in the national long distance races. The descendants of Gaby Vandenabeele's stock breeder Kleinen (Son Kleinen and youngsters of Turbo and Wittenbuik) would soon turn the loft from Ruiselede around.

Son Kleinen BE93-3050291 (from stock breeder Kleinen 253-81) became the sire of stock dam ’t Goedje and super class breeder ’t Pootje for Rudi De Saer and his late father Antoine.
Stock dam ’t Goedje BE05-3177035 is now the dam of several iconic De Saer pigeons:
-New Tours BE10-3020802: winner of a 1st Nat. Cahors 7,136 p.
-Antonio BE10-3020860: winner of a 1st Nat. Souillac 7,756 p.
-Bianca BE12-3120246: the dam of supercrack Falco (see later on)
-Samira BE10-3181366: the dam of Ace, 10th Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB ’17 (see later on)
-Bleken BE07-3128456: 4th Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB and  co-winner of a 1st Nat. Champion Long Distance KBDB
-Champion BE09-3040476: sire of Favoriet, 1st Nat. Limoges, 2nd Nat. Limoges, 2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB

Her sister ’t Pootje BE03-3220003 has been invaluable in the breeding loft as well; she is the dam of:
-Daisy BE08-3022143: the dam of 8 first prize winners, a 1st Prov. Tours, 3rd Prov. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB (Jacko) and 10 x Top-100 National winners.
-Late Jens BE07-3128597: the sire of such champions as Schicht, Inzaghi, Dromerke…
-Jens: 1st Prov. Ace Pigeon KBDB, 2nd Prov. Ace Pigeon KBDB
-Sister 2 Jens BE05-3177117: the dam of New Jens BE10-3020896, 1st Nat. Limoges 13,781 p. and now the sire of 15 first prize winners.

Another pairing that has really left its mark on this pigeon breed is Geschelpte Limoges BE95-3211277 x Wittenbuikske BE95-3211275 (daughter Wittenbuik). They are the parents of Den 18 BE98-3240118, Rebecca BE98-3240153 (the dam of  Son Groten BE02-3185762) and top breeder Perigueux BE99-3243699.

Den 18 (paired to ’t Goedje) became the sire of Bleken, Broer Bleken, Champion etc., whereas Son Groten (also paired to ’t Goedje) is the sire of Antonio, New Tours, Bianca etc.

And there is more: another important player in team De Saer is breeding pair Perigueux x Corry BE01-3031189 (daughter Turbo – Gaby Vandenabeele). They are the parents of:
-Jessie Bond BE05-3177007: the dam of Bleken JR BE10-3165669, sire of Ace (see later)
-Late Zwarten BE08-3037496: the sire of supercrack Neymar BE12-3120018
-Zwarten As BE06-3125865: the sire of Zorro BE10-3183604, sire of Falco (see later)
-Black Dream BE07-3128450: the dam of Blacke Pedro II BE10-3183606, sire of Finn and Tigro
-One Eye Blind BE08-3037370: the dam of Black Lola BE10-3155220, the dam of New Jens JR (see later) and of 8 first prize winners
-Blue Angel BE08-3190061: the dam of Rainman BE11-4245800, 1st Nat. St.Vincent 3,161 p.

And then there is superstar Gino Boy BE09-3171413 (from the loft of Gino Clicque): he is the sire of New Jens (1st Nat. Limoges 13,781 p. in 2012), sire of 12 first prize winners, grandfather of 23 first prize winners, and grandfather of New Jens JR (1st Prov. and 5th Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance KBDB ’16, see later). These are the numerous successful bloodlines which the Rudi De Saer pigeon breed is founded on.

Anyone familiar with the De Saer pigeon breed will know these bloodlines all too well. These pigeons have laid the basis for the title of 1st Nat. Champion Long Distance KBDB 2010 and 2014, 2nd Nat. Champion Long Distance KBDB 2009, and 2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distane KBDB 2015, as well as four national first prizes. These are the achievements that have turned Rudi De Saer into an internationally renowned player.

Pigeons from prize winning bloodlines

Winning national first prizes almost seems like an everyday task for the pigeosn of Rudi De Saer. Here are the four champions that have claimed a national victory for team De Saer in recent years:

-Favoriet: 1st Nat. Limoges olds 2015
-New Tours: 1st Nat. Cahors 2014
-New Jens: 1st Nat. Limoges 2012
-Antonio: 1st Nat. Souillac 2012

These are four fantastic pigeons that were able to claim a national first prize, on top of a palmares that already included several national top prizes and ace pigeon titles. Each of these pigeons got a well-deserved spot in the De Saer breeing loft, where they will serve to provide Rudi with new generations of prize winners. He wants to get the most out of their breeding potential. As always, there are two sides to this story: for every champion that moves to the breeding loft, you lose an invaluable member of your racing team. As a fancier, you always have to try and breed talented new youngsters but at the same time you have to keep an eye on your breeding loft. It is a vicious circle inherent to our sport.

Rudi De Saer has mastered the art of striking a balance between a top quality pigeon breed and a strong racing team. This is where the breeding value of stock dam 't Goedje (or the bloodline of Son Kleinen Vandenabeele) come in, along with with her sister 't Pootje and the descendants of stock pair Perigueux x Corry. A new generation of cracks and ace pigeons has emerged, and it was thanks to them that Rudi De Saer could continue to deliver top results at national level.
The breeding strategy of the team from Ruiselede can be illustrated with three pigeons of his current team of racing birds, which all stem from a combination of 't Goedje and Perigueux x Corry.

Countless top references

It underlines the level of quality of the De Saer breed. They have the potential to pass on their excellent qualities to their descendants, often for several generations.

Hopeful towards 2018

It must feel great for a fancier to be heading towards the 2018 season with such a collection of high quality breeding birds, and a team of very talented racing birds. Rudi De Saer has shown repeatedly over the years that he is one of Belgium's very best long distance fanciers, having won numerous national titles and ace pigeon titles. He is hoping to turn 2018 into another great success. The De Saer pigeons are a world class breed.
