Porsche 911, the new leading man of the PIPA Elite Center, following his great-grandfather New Freddy

The PIPA Elite Center gained an excellent reputation over the past ten years, with a focus on top quality and with the help of world class breeder New Freddy. His descendant Porsche 911 and his full sister Boxster are a great follow-up to this invaluable breeder.

We like the idea of entering the sport with great ambition but as we all know, one cannot become a great champion overnight. It takes a clear vision, a solid approach and a clever strategy, and that basically summarises the philosophy behind the PIPA Elite Center.

The impressive breeding qualities of breeding bird Kannibaal (Dirk Van Dyck) had not gone unnoticed by Nikolaas Gyselbrecht and his keen eye for talent. Kannibaal is probably the only Belgian 1st National Ace Pigeon Middle Distance KBDB that did not get sold after winning his title, fortunately enough.

It would have meant the loss of an invaluable bloodline, and it makes us wonder: how many renowned Belgian bloodlines did we lose over the years, by selling our national ace pigeons to the far east? We can imagine there are quite a few of them, and Nikolaas wanted to do something about it. He founded his own breeding loft called the PIPA Elite Center (PEC).

From day one Nikolaas equiped his PEC with numerous talented pigeons, focusing mainly on the national ace pigeons KBDB and their descendants, and pigeons with remarkable breeding or racing pedigrees. New Freddy (1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB '10) is the team's leading name, and it is fair to say that this New Freddy bloodline has already made history. Meanwhile, his brothers, sisters and youngsters have been breeding very successful descendants as well. (For an overview of the breeding references of this bloodline click here).

A telling example would be the descendants of Wacko Freddy (a grandson of New Freddy), which is the sire of Porsche 911 and Boxster.

Porsche 911 and his parents, stock pair Wacko Freddy x Lieve

A successful career in pigeon racing is not feasible without a collection of top class birds, the type of bird every champion is looking for. When Pascal Ariën visited the PEC in 2012 to take a closer look at the national ace pigeons and their descendants, his attention was immediately caught by the great looking young hen Blue Ace Freddy’ke BE12-4163422, a daughter of New Freddy (1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB '10) and Miss Blue Ace (3rd Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB '11). Pascal found this hen to be the perfect match for his breeding cock Porsche 088 BE11-5170088, which he had bred from two of his best pigeons ever, Olympic Wacko and Norma. There was one issue: Nikolaas was not willing to sell his hen. In the end, the two fanciers agreed on a joint breeding.

The pairing of Porsche 088 x Blue Ace Freddy’ke was an instant success, and the two partners soon bred a talented new pigeon, Wacko Freddy BE13-4176517. He is an excellent racing bird with quite an impressive pedigree, being the grandson of several ace pigeons, including:
-New Freddy BE09-5052387: 1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB ’10
-Olympic Wacko BE07-5035388: Olympiad Pigeon Poznan ’11
-Norma BE09-5026759 : 4th Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB ’11
-Miss Blue Ace BE10-4127357: 3rd Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB ’11
These are pure ace pigeon bloodlines! To find out more, have a closer look at the impressive pedigree of Wacko Freddy.

The hen that was best suited for a pairing with Wacko Freddy was Lieve BE13-6143659, which comes directly from the best lines of Bart Geerinckx. This is another high quality hen with quite a pedigree as well:

Sire: Gladiator BE03-6460062
He was 2nd Olympiad Pigeon in Porto and 3rd National Ace Pigeon KBDB 2004, and co-winner of the title of 1st National Champion Yearlings KBDB in 2004. He was worth his weight in gold as a breeding bird, developing into a genuine stock breeder. He is the sire and grandfather of many talented pigeons; among the most renowned descendants of Gladiator are Miss Magic, Acy, Glamour, Miss Blois, Blauw Diamantje, etc. These pigeons have all contributed to the international reputation of the Geerinckx breed.

Dam: Schoon Witpen Willyke BE03-6460053
A very strong racing hen and an excellent breeding dam. She is a daughter of two other iconic Geerinckx pigeons: Wittekop Sylvester x Willyke.
This makes Lieve a half sister of Glamour, which is the dam of Acy, 1st Olympiad Pigeon 2015

It did not take long for the Wacko Freddy x Lieve pairing to show their potential. They became the parents of two phenomenal birds in their very first year: Porsche 911 and Boxster. And as it turns out, their youngsters and the brothers and sisters of Posche 911 have proven to be among the strongest yearlings of this year's team as well. The future looks bright indeed.

Porsche 911 BE14-2230911 won the title of 5th Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance KBDB in 2015, before joining the breeding team. More on that later.

Boxster BE14-2230972

8th Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance YL KBDB 2015
2nd Best YL of Belgium over 3 long distance races in 2015 – PIPA ranking
11th Nat Brive 9,049 p. ’15 (1st Prov)
42nd Nat Jarnac 4,167 p. ’16 (1st Intprov)
46th Nat Brive 5,952 p. ’16
72nd Nat Tulle 8,621 p. ’15

Boxster was basketed for the long distance every week, with as much as 4 consecutive weeks of racing in 2016. She was basketed on Wednesday to complete 600 to 700 km on Saturday.  She usually arrived home not looking very tired, and the same goes for her brother Porsche, who would look nearly the same as before he was basketed. This is something most of their brothers and sisters had in common. They are the type of racing birds that can be basketed on a weekly basis to compete for the win in a variety of weather conditions, and it is with this type of bird that the PEC would like to further develop its pigeon breed.

Is it excellent feel, extensive knowledge or a combination of both? In any case, the pairing of the New Freddy bloodline with the best pigeons of the Geerinckx breed has led to numerous talented racing and breeding birds.

Porsche 911 joined the PEC breeding loft after a memorable 2015 racing season. His partner Louise was left on her own in the lofts in Houwaert, where she had been paired to Porsche 911 for quite some time. Her own living box was the thing that reminded her the most of her male partner, and it explains why she did everything she could to scare off intruders, even potential new partners. Perhaps Louise for some reason knew that if she ever wanted to see her beloved Porsche 911 again, she would have to deliver an exceptional performance. It could explain her impressive feat in the very first race of 2016, where she claimed a national first prize from Bourges, in hot weather and a north-easterly wind.

Sire: Dali BE13-5065127
A son of Pascal Ariën's favourite breeding pair: Tarzan x New Patricia. For your information, Dali is a full brother of Salvador, which is in turn the sire of a 1st Prov. and 2nd Nat. Bourges 19,885 p. in 2016. This is obviously a high value bloodline.

Dam: "Magic 700" BE13-6143700
A direct Bart Geerinckx. A daughter of an Olympiad Pigeon Allround 2013 Nitra: Miss Magic BE10-6143162.
This “Magic 700” also bred a 2nd National Bourges 2016 yearlings (paired to Salvador). She is quite a breeding dam alright!

The parents of Dali (Dali is the sire of a 1st national Bourges 2016 +/- 20,000 olds)
and the parents of Salvador (Salvador is the sire of a 2nd national Bourges 2016 +/- 20,000 YLs) :

Porsche 911 and Louise were reunited in the PEC after her impressive performance, where they were given the bridal suite for obvious reasons. They are both an exponent of a high quality bloodline, and they clearly illustrate the PEC's current breeding strategy. Porsche 911 and Louise are not just two invaluable additions to the PEC's breeding loft, they will also play a crucial role in the further delopment of this success story.

Anyone who takes a closer look at the pedigrees of the two breeding stars will agree that they originate from several super class bloodlines. This is a unique combination of pigeon breeds which different Belgian lofts have bred their national ace pigeons and national first prize winners from, including such world famous pigeons as New Freddy, Miss Magic, Olympic Wacko, Norma, Kannibaal, Acy, Miss Rapido, Jennifer, Hattrick, Prima Dora, and Johan. The PEC has now bred two new stars from these very bloodlines: Porsche 911 and Louise!

Genetic testing demonstrates exceptional quality at PIPA Elite Center

It goes without saying that the pigeons in the PIPA Elite Center are of the utmost quality. Their achievements in the racing and breeding lofts have been off the charts in recent years.

Genetic test have now officially demonstrated the exceptional quality of these pigeons, as 80% of the PEC's breeding birds are shown to carry the LDHA A variant! Ruben Lanckriet of Pigen told us he had never tested a group of breeders with such a high percentage before. Such a high percentage of LDHA is truly exceptional, especially because the so called A variant is very rare, and is generally found in no more than 10% of all racing birds. This illustrates the exceptional level of quality in the PEC breeding loft. Keep in mind the PEC team has never been looking specifically for pigeons with this gene; they have rather selected pigeons based on their achievements. Still, we assume their racing approach must have attributed to the exceptional number of pigeons with this gene. Top breeders Lieve, New Patricia, Porsche 911, Blue Ace Freddy'ke, Wacko Freddy, Tarzan and Dali all cary the LDHA A variant, which is highly unusual!

In addition, the team's two stock hens New Patricia and Lieve appear to have not one but two invaluable genes: they not only carry the LDHA A variant but also the CT variant, which is very rare indeed. New Patricia (the dam of Dali and Salvador, and thus the grandmother of a 1st and 2nd Nat. Bourges in 2016) was shown to carry the LDHA AB DRD4 CTCC (just to give you an idea: the genotype AB CTCC is found in only 1.7% of all pigeons), while Lieve carries the genotype LDHA AB DRD4 CCCT (which can be found in only 1.4% of all pigeons). Click here for a detailed explanation on the different genes (Dutch only).

It appears that the PEC is in a good place in terms of breeding value, and they have a solid future in this regard. And this brings us back to what was Nikolaas Gyselbrecht's main objective when he founed the PEC: to keep the most important genetic material in Belgian hands. It seems he is well on his way to achieving that goal.

The PEC has been quite a challenging undertaking from day one, the bar was set high. Their vision and their strategy was obvious: to breed top level pigeons for both racing and breeding, and to develop a pigeon breed that excels all across the globe, allowing fanciers to race pigeons at the highest level. The team from Knesselare is working hard to accomplish their goal!
