Norbert De Keyzer (Etikhove-Maarkedal, BE) and his heavy duty pigeons

When pigeons are really put to the test, when the races are getting more demanding and there are longer distances to cover there is one name that always comes to the fore: Norbert De Keyzer!

It is safe to say that Norbert has a family of birds that are capable of tackling the most demanding races in our sport. In his region he is more or less the man to beat in the hard national and international classics including Orange, Marseille and Narbonne. It seems that these difficult races are the favourite choice of his strong pigeons. And there is more: the De Keyzer pigeons are actually capable of winning first prizes at the middle distances as well. Not many pigeons can excel both in the middle distance and the longer distance competitions.

The least we can say is that Norbert has had a successful career in the last few seasons in both disciplines. His highlights include the winning of the Silver Wing from Barcelona 2009 for the Barcelona Club in Bruges. He also won the first series international from Barcelona in 2009 with a first and second nominated pigeon and he took the first prize Nat. Zone A Orange against 503 pigeons in 2010 (a 5th Nat. against 4,466 pigeons). He continued his success in the 2012 season with several first prizes in short to middle distance races, as well as in the races from Orange and Marseille.

The key pigeon in the breed of Norbert De Keyzer is undoubtedly Narbonne. This pigeon earned his place in the breeding loft after a very successful career as a racer.

These talented descendants illustrate the breeding qualities of Narbonne, who has become a true stock champion. It is no surprise that he has become the most important breeder in the loft of Norbert De Keyzer. It is thanks to him that the team from Etikhove has been performing very well and that it has won several top prizes in recent years. His dam First Lady (a 100% Georges Carteus) is an important factor as well: she is the dam of such long distance champions as Narbonne, Mulder, De Kleinen and Raket. She is also granddam of the first international Soustons 2010 of Martine Vanderbeken, the Schlek One (1st Nat. Zone A Orange 2010), Schlek Two and the other long distance racers we mentioned earlier. Norbert De Keyzer need not worry about the future with these top quality breeders in his team!
