Marc Capelle (Baudour, BE) - 1st National Champion shorter middle distance & 8th National National Yearlings KBDB 2012 !

After having broken all the records who had ben settled in the sprint competitions, Marc Capelle decided to strike at the next level while taking part in the middle distance pigeon events. That was 2 years ago. He just took another brand new golden medal that he will receive this weekend in Oostende.

To face a challenge and directly be a part of the best the next year, it is certainly a prowess that only a few pigeon fanciers are able to achieve. Marc did it.When he began in the pigeon sport at the end of the 90s, he confined himself strictly to the sprint competition but wasn't against entering a few birds here and there in the middle distance races. After having been excluded from a few groups for his super results (not easy to swallow such a big slap each week of the season..) and conscious of the fact that the future of our hobby is not really the sprint competitions, he finally decided to step up to the next level and enter his birds in middle distance race. He still trusts his old strain (Albert Delange from Ath and the breeding station Simmons via the '39/99', basis pigeon of his loft) and she was always successful but, as a smart guy, he went in search of a new breeding material to strenghten the efficiency of his racers. He contacted Joost De Smeyter (Melden), official deliverer of top racers at all distances, to obtain a few pigeons who were hardly tested. Marc has always sticked to his motto and he was without mercy during his selection processus. He gets rid of a few of them but those who are still breathing are considered as a big capital gain for his pigeon breed. A direct cock De Smeyter contributed to win the 8th at the national championship yearlings. But the main gain is probably the new crossings Capelle x De Smeyter which gives to the new breeding, more strength and more power, two necessary skills to be successful in the races of 400 kilometers, the medium-term objective of the loft. In my opinion, Marc completely benefited from his new introductions and he will probably assert himself as THE new reference in Belgium. Time will tell...

On the other side, what we already know is that he is now one of the most titled pigeon fanciers in Belgium. He is a peerless manager who has nothing to learn in the art of motivation. He controls each facet of the modern pigeon sport and this was again proved this year after the publication of the results of the national championships of the KBDB: another title of national champion came to his feet. Nowadays, his results are as follows:

1st National Ace Pigeon Sprint 2002
1st National Ace Pigeon Sprint 2008
1st National Champion small middle distance 2012
2nd National Ace Pigeon Sprint 2005
2nd National Ace Pigeon Sprint 2007
2nd National Ace Pigeon Sprint 2008
2nd National Champion Sprint 2008
2nd National Champion Sprint Zone B 2008
3rd National Ace Pigeon Sprint 2006
4th National Champion Youth 1999
6th National Champion Sprint 2007
7th National Ace Pigeon Sprint 2004
8th National Champion Yearlings 2012
9th National Champion Sprint 2004

Who can say that he has similar results? Very few people.
Let's also say that the national champion sprint of the 2008 season benefited from the amount of pigeons artificially magnified for the races he used for the national championship, something which of course made his coefficient lower. Without this, Marc would have probably won no less than four national title in ten years! Never seen before!

A concluding first try but...

This year, Marc entered his birds for the first time in a national race: Bourges I. When he saw the favourable flying conditions predicted (heat and north wind), he took the decision to basket his whole team. He had no idea of what he would achieve... he directly won a national top 10 with the 9th place against 16,859 yearlings! However, as the time went by, the stress began to grow. In fact, his best old cock was not home yet. And he never came back. A small difference between the laugh and the tears...

Unfortunately, this super champion never came back from the first national race of the season where he was basketed in a sensational shape. It is always hard for Marc to swallow the loss of his champion especially that, given his performance list, he had a chance to be selected for the next Olympiads in Nitra in 2013. It's the game...
Small detail of great standing: the 9th national Bourges 2012 is a full brother of the two super champions of the loft!

Marc, our congratulations for your title and good luck for the 2013 season!
