Kurt & Raf Platteeuw (Rumbeke, BE) excel in Bourges with no less than seven national top 50 placings

A 13th, 15th, 31st and 34th National old birds and a 16th, 45th and 46th National yearlings. That is the impressive list of achievements by the Platteeuw racing team in a sun-drenched race from Bourges last weekend. This is mainly thanks to the breeding value of their successful parents.

The race from Bourges shows that Raf and Kurt Platteeuw are ready for another national triumph

Clean slate

Kurt and Raf sold their collection of old birds and yearlings on PIPA in late 2015. After a successful auction the two fanciers headed into the new season with a brand new racing team, albeit heavily based on their invaluable breeding loft that had enabled them to win numerous top results over the years. Everyone assumed that 2016 would be a transition year for them but that was not quite the case. Emanuelle claimed a national victory from Châteauroux of 29,591 pigeons in mid-June 2016, and the Rumbeek-based racing team continued to win prizes in the following weeks as well.

One year later, in 2017, Kurt and Raf have a very successful opening classic from bourges, showing their opponents that they should not be expecting any easy wins this year. The combination has won an impressive seven national top 50 prizes last weekend: 4 with the old birds and 3 with the yearlings. Here is a look at the preliminary results at provincial and national level:

Bourges National 23,275 olds: 13-15-31-34-63-81-89-118-168-216-... (preliminary top 250)
Bourges National 20,701 YLs: 16-45-46-65-125-133-173-... (preliminary top 250)
Bourges Provincial 5,133 Olds: 13-15-25-27-42-53-57-71-96-... (preliminary top 100))
Bourges Provincial 4,358 YLs: 8-21-22-31-64-68-88 (preliminary top 100)
Bourges Club 660 olds: 4-6-10-11-14-17-20-24-29-30-31-35-36-38-39-40-41-42-43-
                                 46-47-... (46/105)
Bourges Club 609 YLs: 1-5-6-10-15-17-19-23-24-28-29-33-35-36-46-49-... (46/160)

That is quite a start to the season!

Elke week bingo

Kurt and Raf are now eight weeks into the racing season, in which they have managed to win eight first prizes: one win from Arras, Tours and Bourges, two from Fontenay and three from Clermont. This is an excellent series of results, and the fanciers from Rumbeke are hoping to keep up this rhythm for several more weeks. "Although we build in a safety margin for Limoges given the weather forecast. We sent in 25 pigeons that have also completed Bourges", Kurt explains. The strongest birds are kept aside for the national race from Châteauroux, when they basket every single bird. That should keep their opponents on their toes.
