Jespers-Vanderwegen (Holsbeek, BE) claims three provincial first prizes in just a few weeks' time

Despite some promising results earlier on Herman and Johny had to wait until 22nd of July to really get the team going. It was then that they claimed a 1st Provincial Blois, followed by two provincial first prizes from Bourges two weeks later, giving the combination from Holsbeek a grand total of 3 provincial victories in 2017.

Late to the party

If we take a look at Herman and Johny's list of achievements for 2017, we could say they were late to the party this season: their results improved dramatically as the season progressed. The racing team from Holsbeek had some excellent results in April, May and June as well but it was not until the fourth weekend of July and the first weekend of August that they started to win some major top prizes. We take a look at their best results of the season:

Pammela turns the tide

It was the young chequered hen Pammela (BE17-2017092) that took the first win of the season from Blois: 1st Provincial Blois of 3,672 pigeons. She had won some promising results earlier in the year as well, including a 6th Chevrainvilliers 512 p. (behind five loft mates) and a 38th Momignies 550 p.

Pammela comes from BE09-2040561 x BE13-6314176 Pam. The 561/09 is a full brother of F16, the best young bird over 3 national races in 2008 thanks to a 6th Nat. Argenton and an 8th Nat. La Souterraine. His parents are Kleine Dirk (Dirk Van Dyck) x Fleur (Ad Schaerlaeckens). Together they are the parents of Lady Fleur (2nd Nat. Bourges and 25th Nat. Argenton), Nathalia (4th Nat. Bourges) and this F16. Her dam Pam is a full sister of ten-time first prize winner Olympic Flipper (R&P Vervloesem). Click here for the full pedigree of Pammela.

Pammela, 1st Prov. Blois 3,672 p.

Four great results on 5th of August thanks to Van Dijck x Vandenabeele

Pammela seems to have inspired both the yearlings and her contemporaries in the national race from Bourges in early August: racing bird BE16-2049147 in turn won a 1st provincial in the yearlings' race of 953 pigeons, and in the young birds' race Herman and Johny won a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Provincial of 3,126 p. with BE17-2017147, BE17-2017008 and BE17-2017032 respectively. Needless to say, the team opened a few bottles that weekend after such a display of strength in the race from Blois. This is all thanks to the crossing of pigeons of Dirk van Dyck and Gaby Vandenabeele.

1st Provincial Bourges 953 yearlings

The 1st provincial prize from Bourges in the yearlings' race was an easy target for blue coloured hen BE16-2049147. She finished in 18th place national of 12,449 pigeons. Her palmares also includes a 1st Soissons 561 p., an 8th Melun 269 p., a 25th Interprov. Bourges 498 p., and a 425th Nat. La Souterraine 16,613 p.

Her sire 217/14 is a youngster of a son x daughter of Kleine Dirk, the pigeon that features in Pammela's pedigree as well. The dam of this 1st Provincial Bourges is inbred twice to top breeder Rudy (son Bliksem of Vandenabeele). Rudy is also the sire of Super Romeo (1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Long Distance 2013), New Bliksem (1st Nat. Tulle 5,731 p.) and Ronaldo (sire of Super Ricka, 1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2015). In other words, nothing but renowned bloodlines in the pedigree of BE16-2049147.

1st, 2nd and 3rd Provincial Bourges 3,126 young birds

The BE17-2017147 claimed a 1st Provincial of 3,126 young birds and a 15th National of 38,456 pigeons. He originates from such illustrious pigeons as De Zoon (3rd Olympiad Pigeon Allround and a son of top breeder Paulien of Albert Derwa), Valeska (the dam of Paulien), Black Jack (1st Olympiad Pigeon Allround) and Figo (1st Nat. Bourges) from his father's side. He is also related to a crossing of Vandenabeele (Bliksem line) x Van Dijck (Kleine Dirk line) from his mother's side. Click here for the pedigree of BE17-2017147.

The 2nd Provincial Bourges young birds was won by BE17-2017008. His sire Arthur (1st Nat. Zone C Argenton 6,630 p.) comes from a grandson x granddaughter Kleine Dirk. The dam Minerva, a direct Kristiaan Hennes, comes from the lines of Blauwe Bliksem and Neptunus (Vandenabeele) which can be found in the lofts of Deno-Herbots. Click here for the full pedigree of BE17-2017008.

The bronze medal in the young birds' race was won by BE17-2017032. She is a 50% Paul Huls from her father's side, just like the 1st Prov. Bourges YBs. Her sire Mister Adonis II comes from the lines of such renowned breeders as Black Jack (see earlier), Rudy (see earlier), Bliksem (see earlier) and 1st Nat. Ace Pigeon and top breeder Kannibaal. In other words she is another Vandenabeele x Van Dijck descendant. The dam of this 3rd Prov. Bourges comes from a crossing of Vandenabeele and Van Dijck as well. Her sire Napolitano comes from Nero (sire Nadetta, 1st Nat. La Souterraine for Herman & Johny) x Rachel (half sister Ronaldo, Super Romeo and New Bliksem); Her dam is a daughter of Kleine Dirk x Fleur (parents of Lady Fleur, Nathalia and F16), the top class breeding pair that we saw in Pammela's pedigree as well. Click here for the full pedigree of BE17-2017032.

Kleine Dirk; his dynasty is one of the cornerstones of this breeding loft

The final sprint

These talented racing birds clearly show that Johny and Herman have a solid foundation of breeding birds based around the Van Dijck and Vandenabeele bloodlines. We reckon many fanciers would like to have a few of these breeders in their collection. We are eager to see what their descendants will have in store for us next weekend in what will be the final race of the season for the racing team from Holsbeek: Châteauroux.
