Guy Van der Auwera & Florea Sorin (Gooreind, BE) claim 1st national Bourges 17,944 yearlings

Both the 2017 and 2018 season have been terrific for Guy Van der Auwera from Gooreind in the north of Antwerp. And his 2019 season is already turning out to be a major success as well, thanks to his national first prize in the yearlings' race from Bourges!

Those that are still not familiar with Guy Van der Auwera after the past two seasons have not been paying attention. He was overwhelmingly strong in the 2017 interprovincial race from  Vierzon, taking both gold and silver against 8,177 old birds. Here are the interprovincial results from exactly two years ago:

8,177 olds: 1-2-7-157-290-376-1063-1116-1934 (9/12)

The race from Bourges took place one week later, and he was able to take another win: 1st Provincial Bourges of 3,538 yearlings!

His team was in great form and there was no stopping him. Guy went on to claim his third provincial victory later on in the season: a 1st Provincial Chateauroux of 2,549 young birds.

Florin Sorea

After two excellent seasons (2018 was quite a success as well), Guy came across a new opportunity, as a result of which he changed the name of his team to Guy Van der Auwera & Florea Sorin. Guy has in fact decided to start working together with Florea Sorin from Romania, an iconic international fancier. Sorin runs a fantastic collection of top quality breeding birds after a number of major investments over the years. Guy kept a small number of his own breeding pairs, and Florin is now breeding pigeons with the rest of his collection. Guy, who works as an export manager for the Vanrobaeys pigeon feeds company, now has to spend less time looking after his breeding birds, which means he can focus a lot more on his racing birds. And the name of Florea Sorin stands for top quality bloodlines to work with - a double advantage.

Up to steam

The racing birds of Guy and Florea were meticulously trained, and their excellent form led to some remarkable results over the past couple of weeks. The brand new combination started the middle distance season with a victory on 12th of May in the main competition of the Grensverbond Union from Melun:

1-7-21-24-36-37-41-43-75-95-97-99-108-112-146-148-… (39/59) of 1792 old birds

The winning pigeon from Melun is BE18-6039587. Click here for her pedigree.

And the hen that claimed a 7th prize from Melun of 1792 old birds was none other than Spartan Queen, the winning hen in the national race from Bourges!

Not an end point

The Van der Auwera express train feel like an intercity train: they take halt only every once in a while, for instance after such an important race as Bourges. This is only a brief pause for Guy though; his team is in excellent form, and he will be a force to be reckoned with in the next few weeks! We wonder what will be their next major feat.

Spartan Queen recovers from her fast-paced race from Bourges, amid other stars.
