Eddy & Maarten Leutenez (Kruishoutem, BE) achieve 'great performances' with 'few pigeons'!

The name Eddy Leutenez is a concept within the international pigeon sport. Since the restart after moving to Kruishoutem, and son Maarten came to reinforce the team… the top performances have once again rolled off the production line

It was well-knoen that Eddy Leutenez could race his pigeons. In his glory years in Semmerzake he booked down many provincial and national victories, won provincial and national Ace birds… signs that he had the ‘pigeon fancying’ under the knee. Until… yes, his health deteriorated, and due to health reasons (read: black lung and pigeon dust) he was advised by the doctor to part with his pigeons.

During that period, son Maarten was also infected with the pigeon bug, and when he finished his studies and started working… he decided to use his free time to race pigeons… and of course he could fall back on the expertise and knowledge of father Eddy, who supported his ‘son’ in word and deed, by the coupling and racing of the pigeons! So they put ashore again in 2007 in Kruishoutem!

It is almost unbelievable how, since ther restart in 2007, they have managed to nestle themselves between the circle of  ‘top lofts’. The big difference with the prior period in Semmerzake is, that at they now race with fewer pigeons… even with a rather ‘minimum’ occupancy. Simply because there is no more room available. According to Maarten, it would not be possible to keep more pigeons, since he has taken charge and due to his profession ( as a nurse) he doesn’t have the time needed to lead and coach a bigger colony. The current loft stock consists of 7 old birds, 8 yearling cocks and 6 yearling hens, in addition to 30 youngsters!

With rather a limited group of pigeons, the counter in 2011 already stands at 6 x 1e prize, including the 1st Inter-Provincial Bourges! The following pigeons are responsible for this series of beautiful victories and top prizes:

The new success line of the  ‘Bolleken’

A ‘golden investment’… as we could call it, when Eddy & Maarten introduced the ‘Bolleken’ into the breeding loft at the end of 2009… a super hen which was bought from the lofts of sport friend José Denoyette, after he had won the following top prizes there as a youngster :

-The ‘Bolleke’ B09-4108109

1° Interprov Tours 2.257 p.
1° Roye              664 p.
4° Ablis             265 p.
8° Interprov Tours 2.045 p

She immediately displayed her enormous breeding worth, so that we can possibly call her ‘the’ discovery of 2010, a youthful breeding line which has s imply continued its upward march in 2011, and therefore can be considered as probably one of the most predominant breeding lines of the future… this will not only be expressed in the near future by Eddy & Maarten Leutenez, but also in other lofts. Let us illustrate using the best results already achieved by descendants of this breeding line in the Leutenez- lofts :

-The ‘Bolleke 2000’ B10-4007833

 -The ‘Bolleke National’ B10-4007835

3° Best Youngster from Belgium in the National races   2010!

Unfortunately returned home injured at the start of 2011 from the first race, as a result of which she was inactive for 32 months, after which she was trained carefully, and finally achieved a topper from Tours!

A few youngsters out this line ‘Bolleke’ also got themselves noticed in 2011 with the following performances :

-‘Bolleke Crack’ B11-4232051

7° Intprov Blois  3.090 p. (club 4° from 251 p.)
(For the rest of her honours list see above)

138° Nat Zone A Bourges 9.480 p. (Intprov 33° from 1.028 p.)
240° Nat Bourges       31.719 p

Very impressive, especially when you see that the ‘Bolleke’ is from 2009, and her first breed dates from 2010… and so has only been bred from for two years! The examples above clearly illustrate that this is a breeding line with a future!

And then there is that other ‘crack pigeon’ which answers to the name of the

-‘Zwarte Milan’ B09-4077203

 16° Intprov Limoges      2.960 p. ’11 (club 4° from 242 p.)
 57° Nat Chateauroux I   18.725 p. ’10 (club 2° from 279 p.)

623° Nat Bourges I       17.138 p. ’10 (club 8° from 222 p.)

He is a 100% Marc De Cock, but in fact is also for a great deal ‘old stock’ Eddy Leutenez, as a crossing product of the ‘Grote Milan’ B06-4370915 (grandson ‘Milan’ Leutenez) x ‘Miss Milan B05-4126349 (Daughter ‘Milan’).

With a total loft stock of scarcely 20-tal old racing pigeons and 30 youngsters, then the list above is very impressive. Admittedly, lack of space has forced Eddy and Maarten to be very strict… yet the wealth of such successors means that their lofts are only occupied by real top racers and crack pigeons… and you only acquire such examples when you also have an extremely balanced breeding loft, which produces the necessary ‘crack pigeons’ regular as clockwork! It is like a vicious circle, one thing is the logical result of another thing!

Eddy and Maarten Leutenez worked hard after moving to Kruishoutem, and rapidly tred the road to the top… with the aim being to rejoin the national top of our land in the shortest time possible, to which they had belonged to for years when they lived in Semmerzake. It has to be said, with success… the affiliation with the ‘top ‘ is a fact once again, and this with and through lack of space, but moreover a very young team of racing pigeons (2 years old or younger)! It is exactly that fact which opens perspectives, and makes it clear that we are far from finished with the Leutenez-pigeons!
