Derek Rooney (UK) a fast strain based on Harry's Favourite and Best Kittel

Derek Rooney, Warrington UK has raced very successfully for years at the Sprint/Middle distance with his original team of Gaby Vandenabeele bloodlines. But when his breeders were reaching their old age, he decided to look for something fresh based from the same origin.

He had been assisting Dr Van De Sluis at the Pigeon Shows all over Europe and at the same time made vary many friends in Belgium and Holland, so he had a very good knowledge of the sport in Europe.

In 2013 he decided to retire in order to concentrate more on his love for pigeons and sold his business before going looking for the next chapter in his racing career. He had become great friends with Jan Hooymans and purchased “Harrys Favourite” a direct son of “Harry” who went on to produce:

1st Club 6th Fed Hereford 1181b,
1st Club Portland
1st Fed Portland 1356b

Grandchildren of Harrys Favourite win:

1st Fed Yeovil 659 b.
2nd Club 2nd Combine Worcester
3rd Club 3rd Combine Worcester
15th open Midland National 8700+b.
13th open Midland National 4027 b.

A friend Paul Ashbury also won 8th open Midland National 4027b, 1st Midlands Continental Classic Flying Club winning £1623, 9th Open Midlands National 4442b and another friend Derek Flowers won 8th open Welsh National 1558b, 4th Fed 1496b, 30th open Welsh National all from “Harrys Favourite”.

Derek races his pigeons on the roundabout system with the hens doing very well for him on this system. He couples his pigeons around mid January and will breed a team of 40 youngsters to race. He is happy to keep a team of 20 old pigeons, which for the sprint/middle distance races is adequate and he also has a granddaughter of “Best Kittel” he calls “BK's Best”, she won 1st Federation 1152b racing right through the doors, plus 1st Club 1st Combine Mangotsfield, 1st Club Worcester 2nd Combine, 1st Club 1st Fed Tewkesbury 1454b, 1st Club 1st Fed Yeovil 1126b etc.

He wanted to race the sprint as well as the middle distance and with these pigeons he feels like a young fancier again, his excitement level is high and in 2019 season won 25 Federation top ten positions and over 40 altogether including the Combine results. Derek certainly has the very best bloodlines available for sprint and middle distance racing with the “Harry” and “Best Kittel” foundations.
