After winning 2 top 10 ace pigeon titles in 2016 Roziers-Xiang (Itegem, BE) now claim 5 top 20 prizes including a 1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs

Everyone agreed that it would be nearly impossible to improve upon their results of 2016, having won a 2nd and 7th Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs and 8 top 100 placings. And yet, multiple winner Jelle Roziers continued his winning streak this season with a title of 1st National Ace Pigeon in the same category, an impressive five ace pigeons in the top 20 and seven in the top 50. This is quite phenomenal.

Tough choices

2016 was a truly exceptional season for the young birds' specialist from Itegem and his partner Jixian Xiang, having won no less than eight national top 100 prizes in the ace pigeon championships: 2nd, 7th, 47th, 55th, 66th, 68th, 83rd and 91st Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2016. Believe it or not, Jelle was able to get even better results in 2017, now winning 7 top 50 placings: 1st, 10th, 11th, 17th, 19th, 35th and 43rd Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2017. This means Jelle has won an impressive 15 top 100 ace pigeon prizes, including 10 top 50 prizes. These are astounding results, leaving him with an unusual issue: does he have enoug space to keep all these ace pigeons?

Stock breeder Queen L provides two national ace pigeons (again)

The stock dam in Itegem is Queen L. Last year she provided the combination with a 2nd and 7th National Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance, and her name features in the pedigrees of two ace pigeons again in 2017: BE17-6037517 New Queen L (1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2017) and BE17-6037521 Helen (11th Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2017). Meanwhile the blue coloured racing cock BE17-6230797 Berre won an ace pigeon title as well: 10th Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2017. This pigeon is not a descendant of top breeder Queen L but he clearly illustrates the strength in numbers of the Roziers-Xiang pigeon breed.

New Queen L: 1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2017

New Queen L was the star of the team for Jelle last season. She won a prize per 100 on three occasions, almost two prizes per 20 and one prize per four. Here is a look at the racing prowess of New Queen L:

14/08/17 Châteauroux III: 1st Nat. Zone 4,949 p. (12th National 18,499 p.)
06/08/17 Bourges II: 199th National 38,456 p. (103rd Nat. Zone 12,400 p.)
26/08/17 Argenton III: 166th National 21,915 p. (38th Provincial 3,669 p.)
15/07/17 Gien: 95th Provincial 4,348 p.
19/08/17 Blois: 141st Provincial 2,596 p. (280th Interprovincial 5,056 p.)
10/09/17 Châteauroux IV: 2,813th National 12,150 p.

Jelle in fact proved to be her biggest motivator: "New Queen L was paired to me during the season. She attracted quite a few other hens because she would start to coo like a male pigeon every time I entered the loft, but she did not care for their attention."

The sire of New Queen L is Blue Bar, her dam is Juneau. Together they are the parents of a 3rd Ace Pigeon YBs in the Antwerp long distance club, and the (grand)parents of several first prize winners in Great Britain. Juneau is closely inbred to Queen L, since both her sire Texas Boy and her dam Samanta are grandchildren of Queen L. Texas Boy's sire is in fact a brother of Queen L. The name of Texas Boy reveals the ties with her dam Texas Girl, the dam of Perfect Light (2nd Nat. Bourges) and Oklahoma Junior (4th Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2014). Click here for New Queen L's full pedigree.

Berre: 10th Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2017

The title of Silver Wing in Itegem goes to Berre this season. He is one of the youngsters that were bred by Paul Peeters this season. Jelle: "I had ordered six youngsters bred from Paul's best three breeding pairs, which I was to pick up in late May. Paul then asked me if I could wean an additional two youngsters, which was not a problem since I had weaned some birds just a few days earlier. He promptly handed me another pair of youngsters, for free. When I went to pick them up in the end of March, Paul gave me another pair of youngsters. Later in the season I had two of these free pigeons loft, and I remember I told him in jest that I would turn them into ace pigeons." And that is exactly what happened five races later:

14/08/17 Châteauroux III: 2nd Nat. Zone 4,949 p. behind New Queen L (13th National 18,499 p.)
06/08/17 Bourges II: 71st Nationaal 38,456 p. (35th Nat. Zone 12,400 p.)
26/08/17 Argenton III: 455th Nationaal 21,915 p. (184th Nat. Zone 6,069 p.)
15/07/17 Gien: 320th Provinciaal 4,348 p.
19/08/17 Blois: 253rd Provinciaal 2,596 p. (479th Interprovincial 5,056 p.)

His sire Roger Rabbit is a half brother of Blue princess, 3rd Ace Pigeon Fondclub Bevel and 5th Ace Pigeon Superduif. He comes from the line of super class breeder Lichte Bourges for Maurice Voets (via Willy Daniëls), and from the Van Leest-Peeters bloodline. The dam of the 797/17 is Frakkes Best (Frans Vervoort), a sister of the 450/11 (2 x 1st Angerville, 6th Angerville, 9th Noyon, etc.) and the 474/11 (1st, 2nd and 4th Angerville, etc). Click here to learn more about BE17-6230797's origins.

Helen: 11th Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2017

Helen was the third most successful racing bird of 2017 here in Itegem. She had quite a remarkable racing season as well, winning three top prizes and an additional prize per 50:

14/08/17 Châteauroux III: 13th Nat. Zone 4,949 p. (106th National 18,499 p.)
06/08/17 Bourges II: 296th National 38,456 p. (160th Nat. Zone 12,400 p.)
10/09/17 Châteauroux IV: 46th Nat. Zone 3,570 p. (163rd Nationaal 12,150 p.)
19/08/17 Blois: 577th Provincial 2,596 p. (1001st Interprovincial 5,056 p.)

Racing hen Helen was inbred to stock dam Queen L from her father's side, since her sire Nice One is a great-grandchild of Queen L through both his parents. His grandmother from his mother's side is Texas Girl, which is the dam of Perfect Light (2nd Nat. Bourges) and Oklahoma Junior (4th Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance YBs 2014); she features in the pedigree of New Queen L as well. Nice One is not only the sire of Helen, he also bred Mr. Dark (10th Best Young Bird in the national races with 7 prizes PIPA rankings). The dam of Helen is Miss Eddy, a crossing of the bloodlines of PIPA Elite Center and Team Noël-Willockx. Miss Eddy comes from Son New Freddy (son of 1st Nat. Ace Pigeon Longer Middle Distance New Freddy) x Het Superke (half sister of multiple top prize winner Eddy's Ace and a granddaughter of stock breeder 118 Stamdoffer). Click here for the full pedigree of Helen.

One plus two makes three

The Roziers-Xiang combination was founded just three years ago. Two racing seasons later the team has been able to win numerous ace pigeon titles, achieving even better results this year than in 2016. What is even more remarkable, is that they won a 1st, 2nd, 7th and 11th National Ace Pigeon in just two years' time, each time with a descendant of top breeder Queen L. They clearly found a magic formula that will most likely enable them to make their third season a great success as well.
