Flanders remains the native country of the pigeon sport, that was proved yet again the day before yesterday and yesterday. The top pigeon fancier Eric Limbourg from Brussegem decided to sell his entire pigeon colony via public auction.

One of the many testimonials we have received after the Erik Limbourg auction, this one is from a very prominent person in the pigeon sport and also in business, Hans Eijerkamp :
Brilliantly done super class !
I think it is brilliant what you have built up the best in the world.
I know what it means to build up a business  to something this big.
Your father can be proud of such great sons who have also gathered top are also employees around them.
Warmest greetings from
Hans Eijerkamp.

At the end of the auction on day 2, Just before the last pigeon, associate Geert De Clercq had planned a small surprise, he jumped up on stage to deliver the following...it went deathly quiet in the room :

Then, a word of thanks by Martin Martens to Geert de Clercq:
"Geert, you cannot thank yourself, but I would like to bring to attention how marvellously you have coordinated everything behind the scenes by Erik Limbourg, how you sifted through all the results for the Ace pigeon competitions, how you helped Erik with all the administration and marketing and auction. You complement each other perfectly! And today that complementarity has also led to a great success. "

Flanders is the cradle of the pigeon sport, which was proved yet again today and yesterday. The top pigeon fancier Eric Limbourg from Brussegem decided to sell his entire pigeon colony via a public auction.

Result: total revenue of no less than 1,25 million euro. The public auction that took place this weekend just over the border in the Netherlands in Thorn was organised by the world market leader in pigeon sales via internet: pipa.be (PigeonParadise).

Not only the great turnout , but also the many offers via telephone once again ensured top prices. It is then unique that such an excellent colony is sold in 1 sale.

The total of the colony consisted of 246 pigeons, which came under the auctioneer’s hammer and changed owners for a total sum of 1,25 million euro, or an average of 5.100 euro per pigeon.

The top pigeon in this auction answered to the name of ‘Eagle Eye’, which unusually remains on Belgian soil, and was bought by Marc De Cock (The CEO of Cock’s Meat products) in the East-Flemish Temse. The pigeon fancier had to pay 132.000 euro. The majority of the pigeons moved to the ‘far East’.

Pipa = the best of the best
