This was perhaps a result that was bound to come, because the pigeons of the Jespers-Vanderwegen combination from Holsbeek had been in great form for a number of weeks now. They claimed quite a few top results over the past several weeks, and this provincial victory was almost inevitable. The race from Blois was in fact a major success across the board.

Sunday was the closing day for 10 different auctions, in which 215 were put up for auction. They raised 389,725 euro together, with an average sale price of 1,812 euro per bird. We briefly discuss each individual auction below.

The Franco-Belge time trial race was launched a few years back to substitute for the cancelled time trail flight on the Mont Ventoux, in memory of Danny Van Bael and Frans Rans. The Franco Belge time trail is not quite as reputable as the race from Mont Ventoux just yet but that is about to change soon, with an increasing number of renowned players taking part.

This provincial first prize is definitely not the first major result for the team from Holsbeek, Flemish Brabant. Herman and Johny have been doing really well in the longer middle distance in recent years, claiming several top prizes and even provincial first prizes.

The name of Jespers-Vanderwegen is inevitably linked with Kleine Dirk, as Hermand and Johny have managed to excel many seasons in a row with their Kleine Dirk descendants. Their stock breeder allowed the combination from Holsbeek to win several top results again this season, including three provincial first prizes.

Despite some promising results earlier on Herman and Johny had to wait until 22nd of July to really get the team going. It was then that they claimed a 1st Provincial Blois, followed by two provincial first prizes from Bourges two weeks later, giving the combination from Holsbeek a grand total of 3 provincial victories in 2017.

Herman and Johny Jespers-Vanderwegen not only claimed a provincial first prize against 1,680 old birds, they also had the fastest pigeon in the province of Flemish Brabant, where a total of 3,610 pigeons had been basketed for Blois.

Dirk Van Dyck and Gaby Vandenabeele are two fanciers with an international reputation. Together they form the Jespers-Vanderwegen combination (Holsbeek, BE), which continues to achieve brilliant results with descendants of the Kleine Dirk and Bliksem bloodlines. Herman Jespers and Johnny Vanderwegen had won several podium places in national races over the past few seasons, before finally taking a national win from La Souterraine last weekend. Their pigeon Nadetta claimed the win against 9,815 yearlings, as the fastest of a total of 16,44 pigeons.

In the national racing calendar the first national race for youngsters from Bourges is always programmed for the last weekend in July. What 'Barcelona' is to the men of the 'grand distance', is this 'Bourges' to the middle distance men, and specialists with youngsters the 'top classic' by far.
