They had to wait for six nights, but as soon as Hugo Batenburg's one year old birds for Agen were released from their baskets there was nothing that could hold them back. Hugo, the unofficial king of the extreme long distance, claims a 1st and 5th National against almost 6,000 pigeons, as well as 9 top 100 placings.

Last season this partnership were the winners from races like the Western European marathon and the national marathon. This time it was a triumphant win for them in the ZLU race from Bordeaux. It was quite a dominating win, unique in the world of marathon racing. It shows that Batenburg-Van de Merwe are among the greatest champions in middle distance racing in The Netherlands.

Hugo Batenburg and Anita van de Merwe from Klaaswaal (Holland) win the PIPA IATP five-year ranking 2007-2011 this year. They also ended third in the PIPA IATP ranking of 2011. Silver in the five-year ranking is won by Andre Colbrandt (Bottelare, Belgium), who was first last year. Lucie van der Wegen from Steenbergen (Holland) completes the stage.
